The Inspectors Service (Magian:検査官の役), often referred to simply as the Inspectors, is the law enforcement arm of the Seigi Kaikan of Magia Regnum. The Inspectors Service is further divided between the Inspection Department and Detention Bureau.
History
The Seigi Kaikan was established in the aftermath of the Renaissance in Magia Regnum. As the society shifted away from a purely military-centric state, there was a growing need for a dedicated institution to uphold justice and maintain order within the rapidly changing society. The Seigi Kaikan was envisioned as a collective body responsible for overseeing the nation's military forces and law enforcement agencies, ensuring that the power was distributed among its members to prevent any one individual from holding complete control over the nation's security matters. As part of the Seigi Kaikan's comprehensive reform, two branches were established; the Sentinel Service and Inspectors Service. The Inspectors service was created to handle criminal investigations and maintain law and order. This specialized unit was tasked with conducting thorough and impartial investigations into various crimes and ensuring that justice was served. The democratization of the legislative process, represented by the Tate-Shōsū, played a crucial role in shaping the development of the Inspectors Service. As representatives from the Tate-Shōsū were elected by the people and had an equal vote in the decision-making process, the Inspectors Service had to be accountable to this body in its operations in enforcement of it's laws. The legislative body ensured that the Inspectors Service remained fair, impartial, and transparent in its approach to law enforcement.
Duties and Role
The Inspectors Service is thoughtfully organized into two distinct divisions, each with its specific responsibilities and duties. The Inspection Department forms one integral part of the service, taking on the vital role of conducting thorough investigations into criminal activities, potential threats, and other law-related matters. These skilled investigators are trained to delve into the most intricate and complex cases, seeking to uncover the truth and bring perpetrators to justice.
This may include:
- To control receipts and outgoings of the foreign people and Magians
- Immigration law, refuge and asylum, extradition and expulsion
- Gambling enforcement, particularly illegal dueling
- Tracking down magical contraband
- Curtailing hoka corruption and rogue magical girls
- Control of private security companies
- General law enforcement and criminal investigation
- Coordinating with Magical Authorities
On the other hand, the Detention Bureau comprises the second division, taking charge of the management and supervision of those who have been apprehended or detained. They ensure that all detainees are treated fairly and according to the laws of Magia Regnum, while also implementing measures to prevent escapes or disturbances within detention facilities.

- Containment of Malevolent Magical Entities and rogue magical girls
- Enforcement of Magical Detainment Orders
- Maintaining Detention Facilities

Structure
Judicial Commission
As a division of the Seigi Kaikan, the overall leadership of the Service falls under the Shuryō (主要), currently represented by the Magical Girl Haruka "Honey Yohko" Asato. The Shuryō is chosen from among the members of the Seigi Kaikan by the Haimajika, ensuring that the individual selected possesses the necessary merit and dedication to fulfill the critical role of safeguarding the realm. At the top of the national government, under the Shuryō, the Judicial Commission acts as an oversight body, monitoring the activities of law enforcement agencies, including the detention divisions. It ensures that inspections, detainment procedures, and other law enforcement actions comply with magical laws and respect the rights of magical beings. The Judicial Commission may provide legal guidance to law enforcement agencies to ensure they operate within the bounds of magical law. Led by Chairwoman Fuku-Shuryō Mukai "Shining Star" Mari, it comprises members who are either Chief Inspectors or Wardens such as Vice-Chairwomen Keibu Mitsugu "Fire Star" Ichi and Kantoku Kurihara "Colossal Nebula" Yuyu, along with Kantoku Takeda "Storm Guard" Isako, Kantoku Sakiyama "Clear Sky" Kata, Keibu Agano "Saphic Flower" Shioko, and Keibu Oka "Horizon Dawn" Ami.
Inspectors
For individual departments, At the top is the Keibu (警部) or Chief Inspector. This highly skilled and experienced magical girl holds the paramount responsibility of overseeing all inspection operations. They set forth the division's vision, mission, and strategic goals, ensuring seamless coordination among the various ranks. Additionally, the Chief Inspector formulates policies, procedures, and guidelines, ensuring that inspections are conducted fairly, efficiently, and in strict adherence to magical laws. Under them, are Bumon Kensakan (部門検査官) or Divisional Inspectors. Divisional Inspectors hold significant authority, overseeing specific divisions within the Inspection Division. They are responsible for managing inspection teams, assigning tasks, and coordinating operations within their designated areas. Divisional Inspectors report directly to the Chief Inspector, providing updates on the progress of inspections and any notable findings. Their expertise and leadership help ensure that each division operates effectively, contributing to the overall success of the magical policing organization. Under them is the Kai Kukaku Kensakan (下位区画検査官), or Sub-Divisional Inspectors, who are entrusted with managing sub-divisions or units within larger divisions. Their role involves supervising inspection activities, ensuring they align with the division's objectives. These capable inspectors work closely with Divisional Inspectors to execute inspections and gather essential information for further analysis. Their keen attention to detail and organizational skills contribute to the smooth functioning of inspections on a more granular level.
Below leadership Gunsō (軍曹), Sergeants, are seasoned inspectors, tasked with leading smaller inspection teams, they display exemplary proficiency in magical investigation techniques and containment methods, and Junsa (巡査) - Constables - who represent the frontline inspectors, engaged in the day-to-day activities of inspections. Their tasks include gathering evidence, conducting magical assessments, and reporting their findings to superiors. Constables form the backbone of the Inspection Division. Constables enter the service as Hogo Kansatsu Junsa (保護観察巡査) - Probationary Constables - under the guidance of experienced officers, they undergo training and a probationary period to develop their skills and gain practical experience and may be promoted to Jōkyū Junsa (上級巡査), Senior Constable, for a higher paygrade and may lead inspection teams and assist in complex investigations.
Detention Bureau
The Detention Bureau, an integral part of the Inspectors Service, operates with a meticulously structured hierarchy to ensure the secure containment of malevolent magical entities. At its helm of any facility is the Kantoku (監督), or Warden, a highly experienced and skilled magical girl responsible for overseeing all detention operations. The Warden establishes detention protocols, prioritizes detainee security, and implements policies to prevent any escapes or breaches that could endanger the enchanted realm. Supporting the Warden is the Fuku kanshi-in (副監視員), Deputy Warden, who plays a crucial role in managing day-to-day operations and offering assistance in making critical decisions. Working closely with the Deputy Warden is the Sanbōchō (参謀長), Staff Commander, providing strategic guidance and managing administrative matters within the detention facility.
The Detention Bureau also relies on Saikō Kanrisha (最高管理者), Senior Controllers, experienced and skilled detention officers, to manage specific sections or units. Senior Controllers lead detention teams, ensuring the safety of detainees and the efficient functioning of operations. Kanrisha (管理者), Controllers, in turn, supervise detention officers, meticulously ensuring the adherence to containment protocols, coordinating detainee activities, and reporting to Senior Controllers. At the frontline are the Kanshu (看守), Jailers, responsible for directly supervising and caring for detainees. They diligently maintain security measures, conduct inspections, and uphold containment protocols to preserve the safety and order of the detention facility. Outstanding Jailers may be promoted to the esteemed position of Sōkan (総監), Chief Jailer, assuming greater responsibility for the day-to-day management of detainees and fellow Jailers.
Recruitment and eligibility
Recruitment in the Inspectors Service involve a comprehensive and selective process aimed at identifying capable and proficient magical girls to maintain order and safety. As magical beings possess unique abilities, careful consideration is given to ensure their effective handling of magical affairs, containment of malevolent entities, and enforcement of law. Aspiring candidates are subjected to rigorous magical aptitude tests that evaluate their innate talents and proficiency across various magical disciplines. This initial screening helps identify candidates with significant magical potential. Candidates undergo thorough character assessments, assessing traits such as integrity, empathy, and determination. Law enforcement agencies value these qualities as vital for upholding justice and remaining steadfast in the face of adversity. Successful candidates proceed to intensive physical and magical training programs. These training sessions aim to refine their combat skills, containment techniques, and spellcasting abilities, preparing them for the challenges they will encounter during inspections and detainment duties. Depending on the specific needs of the magical police force, recruitment may prioritize candidates with unique magical abilities or expertise in areas such as mystical tracking, containment strategies, or investigative techniques.
Ranks and uniforms
Uniforms
The uniform's top is reminiscent of a kimono, featuring gracefully flowing sleeves and a wraparound design that allows for unrestricted movement during intense magical battles. The fabric is embellished with intricate Shinto-inspired patterns and symbols, carefully woven or embroidered in gold or silver thread depending on the rank. Adding both a touch of elegance and magical defense, the uniform incorporates an enchanted collar. This unique feature allows the collar to rise and offer protection when confronting malevolent magical forces or engaging in spellcasting battles. Around the waist, there is an obi-like belt, providing a way to carry magical tools and accessories securely. The lower part of the uniform is designed with a flowing skirt, reminiscent of a traditional kimono, providing the magical girl with graceful and agile movements as she casts her potent spells. Thigh-high boots, adorned with subtle motifs, complete the ensemble, offering both aesthetic and practicality.
The uniform of the detention bureau is similar, however it provides versatility with a detention-style skirt or tailored pants, both offering ease of movement and functionality with sturdy, high-performance boots. Detention officers are equipped with a utility belt which typically includes magical binding ropes, enchanted restraints, and vials for containment spells. A unique feature to Magians, Detention goggles are a standard for enhancing the magical girl's perception of magical auras and energy, aiding her in detecting hidden magic and deceit. Designed for resilience and practicality, the fabric of the uniform is durable and resistant to magical interference, offering protection during confrontations with mischievous or corrupted magical beings.
