Energy in Amathia describes Amathia's situation in terms of the production, consumption, import, and export of energy and electricty.
Amathia has important oil and gas reserves, and is an exporter of oil, while also serving as a transit country for the transportation of energy resources between Eastern and Western Euclea. The greatest energy source of Amathia however lies in its large complex of nuclear power plants. Built in the 1960's and 1970's in order to secure the country's energy independence, Amathia's nuclear energy capabilities are significant, especially for a state of its size, and more than half of the country's electricity needs are secured by its 15 nuclear reactors, making Amathia into one of the most nuclear-dependent nations in the world.
Because of that, the country's energy development has been a massive issue for all Amathian governments of the past decades. Being faced with maintaining an old system of nuclear power plants that desperately need modernization, Amathia has so far proven to be unable to tackle the issue, with its strategy being focused both on maintaining its nuclear system, and on trying to diversify its energy sources by investing into coal and hydroelectric power, while plants for a transition towards renewable and sustainable energy sources have been continuously postponed.
The generation and distribution of electricity in Amathia is mostly under the control of state-owned enteprises, among them Amatom and Amelectrica.
