The Conservative Coalition (French reformed: Coalition conservatrice) was an electoral bloc of right-wing parties in Gylias. It was formed in 1961, and disbanded in 1969.
History
The bloc emerged out of the "constructive"–"recalcitrant" battle that raged within Gylian conservatism since the Free Territories. The "recalcitrant" Conservative Party and Restoration Party took the initiative in creating the bloc. This caused many disgusted centre-right voters and politicians to instead align with the Centre Group or certain Non-inscrits.
During its early years, the CC mainly had a reactionary orientation, opposing the Golden Revolution and the Gylian consensus. This made it an isolated and negligible presence in Gylian politics, attracting hostility and marginalisation comparable to the Futurist Party of Alscia. It barely entered Parliament in the 1962 federal election.
It regularly came into conflict with Elections Gylias, which disqualified many of its candidates — including barring it from running in the 1961 and 1968 presidential elections — and banned its PPBs for discriminatory, hateful, or anti-constitutional content. Its composition fluctuated during its existence as several member parties were shut down for anti-constitutional activities, forcing them to be replaced by parties that sought to at least nominally remain within legal bounds.
The CC grew close to the Front for Renewal of Order and Society as an extremist formation, and its early traditionalist orientation was gradually replaced with a more Gylian-specific far-right profile, shifting from sociocultural issues to right-wing populism and economic demagoguery.
It was destroyed by the 1969 federal election — reduced to only one deputy, it underwent entryism by "constructives" and its member parties were all abolished. Now triumphant over the "recalcitrants", the "constructives" established the progressive conservative National Bloc, which became Gylias' main centre-right bloc.
