The 2nd Millennium BCE spanned the years 2000 BCE to 1001 BCE. It is characterised by the transition from the middle to late Bronze Age. In this millennium, the early alphabet appeared. The millennium consists of the latter of the middle Bronze Age as well as the late Bronze Age. The end of the millennium sees the Bronze Age's transition to the Iron Age.
World population rose steadily, possibly surpassing the 70 million mark for the first time.
