The Arucian Cooperation Organization is an intergovernmental regional organization, comprised of five member states, one associate member, and four observer states situated in the Western Arucian Sea and Eastern Arucian Sea.
Established in 1988 with the Treaty of TBD, the Arucian Cooperation Organization promotes economic cooperation and integration between its member states, as well as to coordinate foreign policy among its members. To this end, the Arucian Cooperation Organization has established a common customs area in 1993, freedom of movement in 2003, and a common market in 2017 among its member states.
History
The Arucian Cooperation Organization has its roots in the aftermath of the Great War, when the Community of Nations established a political structure for the Arucian Federation, which comprised of former Gaullican possessions in the Arucian Sea and was jointly administered by Estmere, Etruria, Rizealand, and Werania. The Arucian Federation had a central government nominally overseeing nine autonomous districts, but in practice, the government of the Arucian Federation was weak and most powers were exercised by the districts.
In the 1940s, Imagua began negotiating for a political union with the four western districts of the Arucian Federation due to economic considerations and concerns about Imagua's long-term viability as an independent state. In 1945, the four western districts and Imagua would merge into the United Provinces under the leadership of Pierre Voloix, which would assume administration over the Assimas and New Accadia (present-day Bonaventura) following the end of the Solarian War. However, tensions between Imagua and the rest of the federation led to Imagua's expulsion in 1948, and subsequent tensions between Voloix and the Chloesian provinces would lead to the disintegration of the United Provinces by 1954.
Although the United Provinces had disintegrated, some mechanisms to facilitate cooperation between the former members of the United Provinces, such as the Central Bank of the Arucian which continued to provide a currency union among the former member states, remained.
