The Liberation of Yeolcheon was fought between the Allied forced led mainly by the United Kingdom, supported by Joyonghea, Zanarkand, New Akiba, Rubrum, and Jutland-Gimli against the Quenminese Empire. The operation was a part of a series of campaigns that would eventually push the Quenminese further into northern Joyonghea. When Incheon had fallen after the Battle of In'chon, the Allied forces continued their push north towards the border of Central Joyonghea with Northern Joyonghea. Earlier in the war, the defending Joyonghean forces declared Yeolcheon an Open city during the Fall of Yeolcheon. However, due to Prime Minister Lý Học Thao Viên's orders to defend all Quenminese conquests to the last man, Yeolcheon was heavily devastated.

Opening moves saw Allied forces moving on 3 flanks, Kurosawa led the Rubrumian-Jutlandish forces towards the center, Hanamura led the Lucians, ZANACs, and Joyongheans to the west, and Cheon leading the majority of Joyonghean forces to the east. The honour of fighting within the capital fell to the Rubrumian-Jutlandish forces under Cheon's suggestion, seeing how he was impressed by their performance during the previous Battle of In'chon. Kurosawa agreed and by the first few days of the battle, the Rubrumians and Jutlandish troops engaged in a bitter urban warfare with the Imperial defenders. The advance slowly grounded to a halt. Marshal Ho decided to spring a trap to the Rubrumians, using the advantage of the city rubble to conceal his movements. In 7 July, Small Rubrumian units found themselves encircled. At first, they fought to try to break out of the trap but Kurosawa, under a suggestion by Brigadier Murasame Susaya thought that their forces should establish key outposts in the city and hold it until reinforcements can arrive. Kurosawa agreed and the Rubrumian-Jutlandish troops soon fought a defensive battle against Imperial forces on key locations in the city.

On the other hand, Ruzhite Marshal Olav Timasheff was requested by Ho to reinforce his forces in the city. Timasheff had received fresh reinforcements, which also included the 102nd Ruzhite Heavy Tank Division. Kurosawa immediately requested the General Cheon Sang-ji to halt the advance of the reinforcements coming from his flank. Sang-ji agreed and immediately sent his forces to halt the attack. Although the Joyongheans did not yet possess any tank that was capable of destroying the Ruzhite SK tanks, they were nonetheless instrumental in stalling Imperial reinforcements from arriving into the capital.

The rapings and atrocities caused by the Quenminese did not stop even as the battle in the city took place, which drove many Joyonghean troops to anger, which aided in inflicting heavy casualties on the enemy. In just 13 days, Yeolcheon was liberated. Since then, July 12 has been celebrated in Joyonghea as Liberation Day by many of its locals.
