The Renewal and Justice Union (French reformed: Union pour l'renouvellement et l'justice), abbreviated RJU (URJ), is a Gylian political party, part of the Non-inscrits bloc.
Established in 1960, the UNR is the main spiritual left vehicle in Gylian politics.
History
The RJU was founded in 1960, as part of a proliferation of new parties after electoral reform.
It was established as a vehicle for the spiritual left, within the bounds of the Law on Religion of 1959.
It underperformed in the 1962 federal election, becoming one of the smaller non-inscrit parties. It was aligned with the broader leftist bloc, lending outside support to the Progressive Alliance.
It supported the Filomena Pinheiro government in the 1990s, and the Toni Vallas government in the 2010s.
Ideology
The RJU is a spiritual left party, supporting a broadly leftist platform with no affiliation to a specific worldview.
Since its establishment, it has largely served as a means for religious members to channel their convictions into support for left-wing and liberal causes.
Symbols
The RJU uses the colour violet as its official colour.
Popular support
The RJU is generally a small presence in elections, due to the predominantly secular character of Gylian politics and general public disapproval of mixing religion and politics.
