The Great War, also known as the World War, Great Colonial War and by contemporaries as the Continental War, was a global conflict that lasted from 1918 to 1935. Having reached a never before seen scale, it led to the mobilisation of more than 40 million military personnel, making it one of the largest wars ever fought. The vast majority of Gentu's nations, including all of the great powers, fought as part of three opposing military alliances: the Cordial Alliance, the Grand Coalition, and the Anti-Colonial League. The conflict began on the 13th of Okjatab 1918 and ended on the 21st of Enero 1935. By its end, its belligerents included much of Oranland, Naphtora, and Hesterath, with fighting also expanding into the Domicas, Flonesia, and parts of Trimeshia. The war ended in Oranland with the fall of Seronia-Sotha in Kunnen of 1934 and the Godfrey Peace Conference from Pulungana to Disemba the same year. However, the war in Naphtora ended in stalemate between the Alliance and League with the Treaty of Astes. The war ended much later in the Domicas with the signing of the Treaty of New Asseia on the 21st of Enero.
The Great War was by far the most deadliest conflict in history, resulting in an estimated 54 million people deaths in combat; and over 35 million civilian death from military occupation, bombardment, hunger, and disease. Millions of additional deaths resulted from the Sissatic Genocide in the Omaran Empire and the 1929 jenivert pandemic, which was exacerbated by the movement of combatants during the war.
-How the war happened-
The Great War at large was a political, economic, cultural, and social turning point for Gentu. It is generally considered to mark the start of the collapse of colonialism, and saw the dissolution of multiple influential states and the deterioration of others' powers. The war and its immediate aftermath saw a number of revolutions and uprisings in Eudocia, Cavala, Nanchao, the Omaran, and Urga. It also saw the beginning of the Great Decolonisation as well as the so-called Century of Revolution in Naphtora. Most countries whose industries had been damaged moved towards economic recovery and expansion, ushering in what is known as the Roaring Fourties, a period of economic and cultural prosperity for much of the world.
