History

Malta Comino Gozo first participated in the WorldVision Song Contest at the 76th edition held in The Achaean Republic. A debut was planned for the 75th contest, but the broadcaster was too late to sign up. Lewis Sarucino was selected with his song "That Lonely August Evening" and placed 16th. They returned to the next edition, where they came sixth before cracking the top five one edition later, coming fifth in 78 held for the first time in the county in the nation's capital, Valletta. A string of decent results followed before their first win, coming in in Milano, Besen in WorldVision Song Contest 84 with Aris Mooe and her song "Force".

For 81, a national final called "Malta Comino Gozo Decides" was announced for the selection of the entry. Lewis Sarucino won the National Final and, therefore, became the first act to represent Malta Comino Gozo twice. They placed 13th with 62 points.

This national final has been used periodically to decide the entry, most recently for WorldVision Song Contest 96, where Monsieur Disbelief and his song "Encore", which eventually went on to win the contest, becoming the first internally selected entry to do so and the first entry on home soil to win. This selection process was then scraped before "Notes," a highly acclaimed singing show that has been entertaining audiences with its focus on a live orchestra since the 1960s, took its place for WorldVision 113. WorldVision 113 became the first national final act since WorldVision 96 to represent the country. Francesca Tanti and her song "What More Do You Want (From Me?)" eventually went on to win the WorldVision Song Contest 113 become the first winning song in the contest performed in Maltese and the highest scoring entry to win in a contest without semi finals with a score of 341 points.

On the two occasions, semi-finals were held Malta Comino Gozo pre-qualified to the final, having finished third in WorldVision 99 in Densmouth, Carrelie and having won the previous contest in WorldVision Song Contest 106 in Buaka, South Batoko.

Malta Comino Gozo has hosted the contest four times, in 78, 85, 96, and 105. Valletta has hosted the contest three times and the island of Għain once.

Malta Comino Gozo has won the contest ten times, with their first win coming in in Milano, Besen in WorldVision Song Contest 84. Other notable victories include WorldVision Song Contest 89, WorldVision Song Contest 90 and WorldVision Song Contest 91, making them the only nation to win three contests in a row. Malta Comino Gozo has never finished outside the Top 20 in the contest, with their worst result being 19th place at WorldVision Song Contest 94 in Marina Point. The nation also has eight other podium finishes: two second-place and six third-place finishes. Malta Comino Gozo was the most successful country in the '90s, with three wins and eight top 10 finishes.

The small country boasts a well-developed music industry, accounting for its WorldVision Song Contest successes. The contest inspires young talent and provides a platform for established artists, helping Malta Comino Gozo develop its music industry. The country's participation in the contest has encouraged the development of the local music industry, providing a platform for local artists and songwriters to showcase their talents.
