History

Saint Monkey had shown interest in participation in the WorldVision Song Contest in its' early history. However due to the start of the MEGIRBA Song Contest, Saint Monkey decided to opt out of the contest and focus on the more cheaper and closer to home option. When the MEGIRBA Song Contest got cancelled and after the 2nd Teriiblean War, SMBS gave WorldVision a letter of interest. However, they needed to rebuild their functionality of being a broadcaster and needed a comfortable profit margin, and especially after the war this was hard, due to the 1997 Saint Monkey economic crisis. In the early 2000s, SMBS managed to get enough money to participate in the contest. At this time however, the government sold a large share in SMBS. As reforms were made, SMBS never managed to enter the song contest. Another major reason was the 69th WorldVision, which was boycotted by members of the public and major broadcasters in Saint Monkey and was given the title as an "adult strip club contest" by shareholders in SMBS. This stopped SMBS for participating in the near future.

Other broadcasters showed interest in broadcasting the contest and even participating in it, however once again, many broadcasters such as the STVU and SM1 suffered from financial trouble and then the boycott of the 69th edition caused several broadcasters to pull out.

As the centinery of the contest was upcoming, many broadcasters considered to broadcast it, with people saying it was time to "move on" from the 69th Contest. SM1 decided to and were given broadcast rights fairly quick, and SMBS were close however had problems entering into the IBA, which could've seen them broadcast and possibly participate in the contest. SM1 broadcasted the contest through MCGBC, Malta Comino Gozo's WorldVision broadcaster.

By WorldVision 106, SMBS got admitted into the IBA, and considered joining WV107, however were blocked by the NationVision Song Contest, a contest it'd been participating in since it's fifth edition, and did not want to risk being banned from the contest.

Until 110, SMBS hadn't tried entering, however when SMBS got a call from RTVC, stating it would be able to participate in WorldVision if they would like to, after a loosening of rules after Vonum's broadcaster leaving the contest, only to return a couple of contests later. SMBS then applied for the 111th WorldVision in Aenglide, and got accepted. They entered their first song, using an internal selection, but purely for "trying the contest, and how the public likes it."

WorldVision 111
Immortal is the most prominent band in the Saint Monkey music scene, known for their pop-rock music. They are known for achieving the most number 1s in the Saint Monkey charts, most number 1s in Anastasia, most streams for an album in Anastasia and the most countries visited on a single tour. SMBS announced they would be representing Saint Monkey for the first time in the WorldVision Song Contest, after internally selecting them to participate. This was the only internal selection SMBS have ever done in every song contest they've participated in. Immortal and SMBS worked on the doo-wop song Going For A Dream, similar to a 1950s Song.

Saint Monkey finished 21st out of 29 nations. SMBS weren't happy with the results, however understood that the song was not a usual song for WorldVision, they were new to the contest and one that wouldn't perform so well. Saint Monkey announced they would be continuing participation by participating in WV112. This was announced during the jury votes, when it came to Saint Monkey's jury, it was announced by the spokesperson Alex Helios.

WorldVision 112
Jonathan Lewis was the artist who won the first Music for Saint Monkey selection for WV and he is known for his collaborations with other artists and influence in Crownex. SMBS announced that he would participate for Saint Monkey in WV112 in Puerto Ámbar, Achaean Republic. The song Graduation, about his backstory with his and his sisters bullying problem in school, and mental problems.

Saint Monkey finished 10th out of 25, its' first result in the top 10, with 121 points.

WorldVision 113
After plans to host the contest, SMBS released an official Host Bid for Saint Monkey. The bid was for the contest to be hosted in Light City, and saw the theme being "The Power Of Music" celebrating the cities and the whole regions EDM and lightning culture. SMBS collaborated with record label Monsterdog Saint Monkey to produce the host bid and to provide the arena, the Monsterdog Unleashed Arena. It faced against a host bid by Beepee, which would've saw the contest been hosted in Chiton, Beepee. The vote was won by Saint Monkey, winning by just 2 points. The contest was taking place at 21:00 UTC-10, meaning WorldVision Committee nations such as Malta Comino Gozo and Waisnor would have to watch the contest in the following morning.

The national final selected Maria Camia and Roberta Carma to participate in the first hosting by Saint Monkey itself, with the Indie Dance/Nu Disco song "On Our Planet". This was a Monsterdog Saint Monkey song, as the label wanted to enter a song for the contest it was helping organise. They asked Maria to bring back a song that wasn't going to be released after the production broke up, which was 5 years ago. W.A.V.E, who produced the song alongside Maria, and Maria herself agreed and Monsterdog helped them produce the song, by offering them their equipment, and eventually they were able to complete the song. It was about all of life's stories. "Whether it be love, death or life, there's always a story happening on this planet," explained Roberta Carma in an interview for Channel Monkey (a Saint Monkeyian broadcaster), "We want to share that using music, and hopefully get people to reach a deep connection with this song." It clocked up nearly 10M views on the WorldVision YouTube Channel and clocked up 1.3M on the Monsterdog Saint Monkey channel, making it the 5th most viewed video on this channel, as of 16th April 2024.

The song finished 12th with 119 points, making it Saint Monkey's 2nd best result, out of 3. SMBS stated that they're adamant to bring songs that the Saint Monkeyian public wants, through the national finals.

WorldVision 114
SMBS hosted the first International NF to chose the entrant to WV114, and the international public combined with the Saint Monkey public voted for Jazz Box with the song "How Mighty" to represent Saint Monkey in WorldVision 114. Beepee won the rights for hosting, after the second time lucky, meaning we would be heading to Chiton.

David said about this song that it “speaks to everyone that has been bullied. You are not at fault, and you are the better person. The bully is the one that’s insecure, not you. Always remember that. But also remember that although they may be weak bullying, if they want help, give them it. That will show your real character. If you say no, you may go down to wrong path too.”

This song also spoke out due to the rising levels of bullying in Saint Monkey, and a call for the government to act about it.

Saint Monkey was given 6th in the odds. They finished in 5th with their best jury and televote result yet, with 172 points. They finished 4th in the jury votes, with 80 points. After the public votes, finished 5th, drawing 4th in the televote with 92 points, the same as the Achaean Republic.

WorldVision 115

Saint Monkey announced that they would be withdrawing from the WorldVision in the 115th edition. This was because the SMBS had several shows such as Nocturnal and Day Cycle releasing, which were multi-million budget shows, and they did not have enough money to participate. They confirmed they would be participating in WorldVision 116, after the programs had been shown, hopefully waiting for the next month of subscription payments and revenue to supply enough money for the contest. Not only this, but that the WorldVision season is during the holiday season, and viewing figures would be very low. It is still being broadcasted, with adverts, on SMBS 2 and SMBS WorldVision. It is also on SMBS+, which is paid without adverts. The commentator will once again be Harry Chanda.

WorldVision 116

For the 116th edition Carmen, full name Carmen Anna-Flora would represent Saint Monkey in WorldVision, this edition hosted in Ugunnustan for the second time. Carmen, an artist from the East Tropchimps won the national final with 29% of the vote. The song is about her life experiences, especially referencing to her life during the 2nd Perek War.

Saint Monkey went into the contest with odds going for them. Most people predicted a top 5, maybe even a podium finish.

After the jury and televote, Carmen finished 4th, with 198 points, the best result for Saint Monkey up till now.

Shortly after the contest, Saint Monkey announced participation in WV117 and a host bid for WV119.
