The Alezian Union has participated in the Worldvision Song Contest a total of twenty four times, eight times as separate countries of North Alezia and South Alezia, and then sixteen times as a reunified country.
North Alezia debuted in Worldvision Song Contest 82, with Imara Syafani's You Are placing 17th. Since then, North Alezia has touched the top 10 four times including the runner up position in the 83rd Worldvision Song Contest held in St. Christopher, Llalta.
Meanwhile, South Alezia debuted in Worldvision Song Contest 83, with Kay Wattefs. During its course of participation, South Alezia has always received bottom 10, and would become a laughingstock of the world.
As a unified country, the nation has received top 10 positions in every edition since it's debut in Worldvision Song Contest 90 until the 95th edition. The nation won the competition three times in Worldvision Song Contest 94, Worldvision Song Contest 103, Worldvision Song Contest 107, and Worldvision Song Contest 110 .
The country competed in all editions of the WorldVision Song Contest from the 82nd edition except for the 112nd, 115th, and 116th edition.
History
Pre-Reunification (WV 82- WV 88)
The Alezian Union has been a huge market for musical events and TV shows. North Alezia has been enjoying a locally made AleziRadio Festival of Songs beginning from the year where the country earned independence from Great Britain which was in 1958, where it continues even into the present era. In South Alezia, it used to host their own local show of the Alezian Song Festival from 1979 to 1982.
Weeks after Worldvision 81 concluded, Alezian Broadcasting Authority (ABA) signed up for Worldvision participation. It has been one of the top goals of the Alezian Broadcasting Authority which is to broadcast international events, such as The Worldvision Song Contest. ABA tried broadcasting Worldvision 81 held in Boschke, Britonisea. However, view ratings were pretty low as there's no singer representing the country thus reducing the need to watch the contest. ABA announced that the Alezimania format won't be used in order to prepare for more editions to come and not to surprise singers and to prepare for their second attempt. And thus, lines were open for the first season of Alezimania even before Worldvision 82 begins. For Worldvision 82, ABA announces that they will be using internal selection for the competition.
The country finally debuted in Worldvision 82 in Tiferet, Ertzei Kishim with Imara Syafani's You Are. North Alezians suddenly started to flock and watch the contest and suddenly it's the most watched TV show in North Alezia. Every edition broke the previous edition's view records. However, in this edition, North Alezia fails to gain attention and earned 17th.
After Worldvision 82 concluded, the national final for searching North Alezia's representative for Worldvision Song Contest 83 was held. The contest is called Alezimania and thus selected Samara and Izdar to represent the country with "My Life Falls Apart Before Me". The song was not the favorite to earn top 10. However, to everyone's surprise, North Alezia earned its best result until it's reunification, which is 2nd.
North Alezia then started to use Alezimania as a source for finding new singers and sending a representative to the Worldvision Song Contest plus the World Hit Festival for the runner up of the national final. The country continues to stay on the top 15 on the other two occasion with Mina Al Diyyah's 11th and Nisran Yaqrina's 15th.
There was some rumors that North Alezia was going to withdraw and have a hiatus at some point, but ABA for now confirmed this as a false rumour and North Alezia would stay for the world class entertainment and won't go anywhere soon unless an emergency struck the country.
From the debut, all songs from North Alezia has been using English and Arabic as their language. However, with Tel Hadiv winning Alezimania Season 4 with Idresh Noam-Khaled's "Bevakasha", For the first time the North Alezian entry won't use Arabic, instead using Hebrew. Idresh earned 8th place, returning the country into good Worldvision reputation status
After that, Tel Hadiv would win the nationals again with Kelsi Meshzan's "No" earning a major landslide inside the juries of the 5th season of Alezimania. Kelsi would once again give the country another 8th place.
After Kelsi's great result, ABA announced that Alezimania will be redesigned into a new (although season will still continue from there) National Final called Alma. Alma adds a new televoting system and standardized the design altogether. Thus the 6th Season of Alma was held and Tel Hadiv won again with Unique Times Four's "Enjoy Life, Love Yourself". However, this proved to be not as successful as other entries, only reaching 15th place.
Transition (WV 89)
During Worldvision Song Contest 89, South Alezia was experiencing an overthrowing of its national monarchy which has been criticized for over-spending and for "killing" the economy of the country. Even then, both North Alezia and South Alezia still competed separately. During the hours before the live broadcast of the competition, the South Alezian government was overthrown and the reunification process famously was announced in the contest's voting session.
Around this time, North Alezia itself earned it's second best result, which is 5th. After this, a referendum was held which was overly in support of reunifying the Alezian Isles into a single nation called the Alezian Union.
After Reunification (WV 90 - 100)
After reunification, a restructured ABA (Alezian Broadcasting Authority) immediately plans for future Worldvision participations. In order to ensure fairness, a cycle rule was introduced where after a national selection was held for one edition, the future four editions would be given to the four regions of the Alezian Union starting from North Alezia then rotating clockwise to Pantabang Islands, South Alezia, before ending in Mosin-Nagan and restarting the cycle with another National Final. The National Final in question ends up being a restructured version of the North Alezian preselection, Alma.
In Worldvision Song Contest 90, the ABA announced that they would use Alma as its selection method. In this National Final, it was initially predicted that North Alezia was going to win. However, this was proven to be false as South Alezia's Quarter Again won the national final. The girl group ended up earning 10th.
Editions after that sees regions trying and showcasing their musical culture representing the Alezian Union. This resulted in North Alezia's 8th, Pantabang Islands 7th, South Alezia's 8th, and an unexpected victory from the combination of Mosin-Naganese soloist Aziz-Lutfi Garanov and band called Time-Killers in Marina Point, Nekoni,
Around this time, the nation has also successfully held the competition in its soil where the 93rd edition was held in the National Stadium of Metropolitan Zafizamarrah. Previously, the region of North Alezia (previously its own nation) has tried bidding for hosting the competition in Zafizamarrah, however, this was met with failure when they tried for hosting in 83 (2nd place in bidding) and 84 (3rd place in bidding).
As a reunified nation, the Alezian Union has successfully stayed in the top 10 position in all of its participations, however, this reputation was broken when Irlene Lilvouw earned 16th, which has been the nation's worst result after reunification (since Imara earned 17th before Reunification), and the worst overall in the amount of points earned. Around this time, the contest earned its lowest viewership since Worldvision 88.
In Worldvision 96, ABA gathered the Worldvision Dream Team once again to decide the next entry (with the primary mission to save Alezia back to top 10 status), which they decided upon using the song "Aime-moi" with the singer still unknown. While the song failed to enter top 10, the team was pleased that the song brought Alezia back to an upwards trajectory.
In Worldvision 97, ABA Bucinnois selected 90s pop band Les Bucinnoaises with the song "What Would You?" hoping that the song continues the upwards trajectory. However, the song resulted in the nation's worst result overall even before reunification, earning 18th place. Due to this, ABA Doorsbreeken (the next regional broadcaster) released a masterplan of "returning Alezia to its roots".
The plan made by ABA Doorsbreeken is to send something entirely in South Alezian culture. And for this initially, ABA Doorsbreeken was to pick Putri Alika for the competition. However, she refused due to private reasons. And thus Hafizaruddin was selected by ABA Doorsbreeken to represent the union. The nation kept its' 18th place, but it for the first time received an under-100 scoring, creating anger not towards Hafizaruddin, but towards the ABA, with public opinion demanding the broadcaster to do something immediately.
After the backlash, it was announced that ABA is ditching the cycle rule to ensure quality after the 100th edition. Since the 99th edition was supposed to be Mosin-Nagan's turn to represent the union, ABA Trishi was supposed to go with the preselected girl group Monochromatic, with their latest song, Perspectives. However, Monochromatic withdrew due to personal reasons. Due to this, ABA Trishi selected another band named "Solidarity" with the song "Anomie". This resulted in yet another worst result for the country, 23rd. And after that, Junior World Hit Festival runner-up Andi FM represented the union for the 100th edition, unfortunately breaking the worst record for the country, earning 28th, and also the first time the nation earned last place.
To respond to the national ire, ABA announced a National Final with a four-song with one per region to decide the Alezian entry from the 101st edition onwards. The discussion resulted on a National Final called "Operation Worldvision", where each region hold their separate preselections to select five people to go to each episode of that season's Operation Worldvision episodes. The first season would select entries from the 101st to the 105th edition.
Operation : Worldvision and Return to Form (101-)
The first episode of Operation : Worldvision was held on 5th of August 2022 in MetroLezia Arena in Metropolitan Zafizamarrah, North Alezia. Four regional participants plus one North Alezian public favourite competed in this episode. The winner of the final was North Alezia's Dinaruddina Almara's "I Broke My Truce". The song ended up in 20th place. This reduced the anger in the Alezian public. However, that would soon be eclipsed by the next Operation's winner Muhammad Azlouwevijk with the song "Wie ik ben?" who end up receiving 6th place which is the nation's best result since its victory in Worldvision 94, first top 10 position in eight editions, and the overall second best result for the country as a reunified country (third if records from North Alezia were also added). This reignited Alezian public's interest to the competition once again, hopefully ending the bad streak of results in the competition.
The edition after, North Alezian singer Liz Dannounavais won the national final and represented the country in Richmond, StrayaRoos. The song Liz sang, "Little Bit Insane" (to national shock) won the competition for the union for the second time in its' history.
After the victory, the Alezian Union continues to earn good results at the competition, once again earning top 10 position, including two time consecutive runner up positions only behind the same country which is Carrelie. In the 107th edition, the Pantabang Islands with Immanuel's "Blessé Mais Béni" won the preselection to represent the Alezian Union, making it the first occasion that a "Pillar Two" region (Pantabang Islands and Mosin-Nagan) won the preselection and finally ending the domination of North Alezia and South Alezia. In addition, it is also the first time that the Alezian entry was sung entirely in French. The Pantabang Islands would eventually win again at the 110th edition with AMIA's "La Cauchemar Disparaitra", making it the only region in the Alezian Union who has won the competition more than once.
In the 112nd edition, the Alezian Union withdrew from the contest for the first time in its' history. The participating broadcaster ABA never publicly announced the reason of it's one edition withdrawal. However, rumours suggested that the country withdrawn due to either budgetary constrains, internal issues regarding Operation:WorldVision contracts, or ABA's frustration regarding public criticism regarding it's apparent "lack of creativity and lack of innovation". The ABA never confirmed anything to this day and the country returned to it's normal participation the edition after.
