The 2020 Marimba asterovirus outbreak is an on-going outbreak of the Marimba respiratory syndrome mammalian type B asterovirus in Astyria. The first case of the MRMBA-20 virus is believed to have been in a patient in the Marimba region of Kuwazavkavan, who presented to an Astyrian Red Cross clinic on January 10. It is thought that a wild monkey was the original host for the virus. Symptoms were found in the Red Cross aid workers after they had returned to their home countries on January 16.
Disease
The MRMBA-20 virus is a mammalian type B asterovirus believed to originate amongst wild monkeys of the Marimba region of Kuwazavkavan. Its symptoms generally develop between three to ten days after infection, and its symptoms generally present themselves as those of influenza or the common cold. Up to 25 per cent of those who develop symptoms have severe symptoms, including difficulty breathing, constricted airways, confusion, dizziness and pneumonia. Currently it is believed around 4 per cent of those who contract the disease and present with symptoms will die. The elderly and young are most at risk of the disease.
