Involuntary euthanasia is illegal. However, the Federal Parliament, in October 2015, passed the Euthanasia and Assisted Dying Act, which decriminalised euthanasia, and that all subjects should legislate for specific laws which work within this understanding. Most federal subjects only allow passive euthanasia, whilst some also allow active euthanasia (lethal injection) as well. The Euthanasia and Assisted Dying Act also means that anyone who was once imprisoned over assisting someone to a foreign jurisdiction for voluntary euthanasia, now has been pardoned. There are 120 such cases in which people have been pardoned.
