Mevirin (pronounced /ˈmɛvɪrɪn/), officially the Duchy of Mevirin (Trellinese: Berend Mevirika), is a province of the Trellinese Empire. It is the fifteenth-most populous province in Trellin and Hysera and the nineteenth largest by total area.
Mevirin shares land borders with Bal Emrith in the north and Rezat in the east, both of which lie across the Petakha river, Khatax in the southeast and, across the Ruhükyar, Azmir in the southwest. Its western coastline fronts the Sea of Jajich, in which also lie the Mevirese islands of Baraja and Torim Fë'iqoz, among others. The province has a population of 7,277,916 and covers a total area of approximately 42,500 square kilometres. Txakla, the seat of provincial government, lies near the Azmiri border.
History
Mevirin was one of the coastal regions first settled by the Ethlorek migrations onward from Trellin. The developing South Ethlorek dialect peculiar to this group of migrants became the language known as Mevirese. Mevirese was later reabsorbed into Trellinese as the Trellinese Empire's influence in the area grew from the 1400s onward. The duchy was annexed into the empire in the 18th century. During the Trellinese Civil War, a number of cities in the province established republican governments in opposition to the monarchy. These republics united as the Mevirese Confederacy in 1892, early in the civil war. Despite some successes, they were restored to royalist control in 1899.
