The Latin Imperial Family consists of Emperor Constantine XX and his close familial relations. The Acts of Succession provide a loose definition of what comprises the Imperial family, though there is no strict definition of who is or is not a member, with final decisions of inclusion or exclusion left to the sole discretion of the reigning Monarch. The current Imperial Family is the House of Claudius. While titled members of the House do not utilize a surname, since 1955 all non-titled male-line descendants of Empress Diana I may utilize the surname Claudius Anicius or Claudius.
Generally, individuals entitled to the style of Imperial Majesty (HIM), or Imperial Highness (HIH) are considered members of the Imperial Family. This normally consists of the reigning Monarch, his or her spouse, their children, male-line grandchild of the Monarch or a previous Monarch, as well as their spouses.
Most members of the Imperial Family reside in official residences throughout Latium. Members of the Imperial Family will carry out official engagements on behalf of the Monarch on occasion. Current members that carry out official engagements is currently limited to The Emperor, The Empress, The Empress Mother. Less frequently The Duke and Duchess of Beroea, as well as The Duke and Duchess of Aurunca will carry out engagements when primary members of the Imperial Household are otherwise indisposed.
Styles and titles
The titles and styles of members of the Imperial Family are governed by the Acts of Succession, and letters patent issued by Empress Diana Augusta in 1955.
- The reigning Monarch is The Emperor or The Empress and is afforded the style of His or Her Imperial Majesty.
- The Emperor's wife is The Empress, who holds the style of Her Imperial Majesty, and additional honorific of Augusta. The husband of the Empress regnant is historically elevated to co-monarch upon either marriage or birth of the heir apparent or presumptive, and is then The Emperor and is afforded the style of His Imperial Majesty.
- The heir apparent, or in some cases the heir presumptive, is afforded the title Prince of Youth or Princess of Youth, and the style of His Imperial Highness.
- An Emperor's children, not the Prince or Princess of Youth, as well as children of a Prince or Princess, bear the title of Prince or Princess with the territorial designation "of Latium" with the style of His or Her Imperial Highness. A Princess will lose her territorial designation upon marriage and assume that of her husband; if the husband has no title, the Princess will retain her title, but have no territorial designation, or be granted the title of Princess Imperial should it be available. A Prince discards his territorial designation if or when he is awarded a ducal title, typically after marrying.
- Spouses of a monarch's sons or daughters are afforded any styles or titles that the monarch bestows upon them. Most often, wives of a Prince have the style of Her Imperial Highness, and the equivalent of her husband's title (ie: Duchess, Countess, etc.).
- Widows of the Emperor hold either the title of Empress Mother or Dowager Empress, depending on whether her son or daughter is the reigning monarch. The widower, i.e. the former jure uxoris co-emperor, ceases to be emperor upon his wife's death, and should his son or daughter become monarch is afforded the title Father of the Emperor. All are afforded the style of His or Her Imperial Majesty.
- The monarch may, in his sole discretion, grant any family member any title which he or she chooses (ie: Princess Imperial, or Princess of Adrianople).
