Gapolania debuted at the Invictus Games in Verlois, Gaullica in 1922 and has participated 23 times since then, appearing at most of the Summer Games and twice at the Winter Games, first participating in 2012.
The country's history in the Games is marked with disappearances caused by conflicts. While in the 1930 and 1934 the competitions were cancelled due to the Great War, Gapolania's absence from the 1938 games was a result of the conflict between the republic and Adamantina. Several athletes with mixed heritage competed under other nations' flags, including Etruria and Aucuria. Another break took place in 1966, when the Gapolanese military seized the power and established a military dictatorship led by Eugenio Giovanardi. Since 1970, Gapolania participated in every games.
With 2 golds, 5 silvers and 3 bronzes, the republic is one of the least successful Asterian nations. First medal was earned in 1974, when Claudio Renza finished second in marathon. Country's first gold medal was earned in 2006 at boxing. Gapolanese athletes excel at martial arts, particularly boxing and wrestling.
Gapolania debuted at the Winter Invictus Games in 2012, with 2 athletes competing in freestyle skiing. The country sent a total of 4 sportspeople for the 2016 Games but failed to qualify for any event at the 2020 Winter Invictus Games.
