Montecara Pòrta Conìxia railway station (Montecaran: Staxiò Montecara Pòrta Conìxia) is the main rail terminal in Montecara, serving over 80,000 passengers per day and 30 million passengers per year. It is served by trains on the Euclostar, SFP, Viaurea, Metrovìa, and Tranvìa networks and by buses and ferries operated by VM.
History
The station was built as Montecara's main ferry terminal. Planning began in the early 1890s, with construction starting in 1896. The station was the first major building in Montecara in the Stìl Dècora style that was coming into vogue in turn-of-the-century Euclea. The architect, Demètrio Ribi, was one of the most famous Montecaran architects of the era. Building was completed in early summer 1904, and the terminal saw its first passenger service on 8 June.
The terminal was expanded and converted into a rail station in advance of the Aurean Tunnel opening in 1969. The square in front of the terminal was entirely excavated and tracks and platforms were installed, a process that took nearly four years.
Retail
The station has around 70 retail tenants in both street-facing and interior locations. These include bars and restaurants, newsstands, bookstores, souvenir shops, florists, tobacconists, grocers, and a branch of Poste de Montecara. Other options include include H Opera and j&j for fast fashion, Open Express for convenience shopping, Haberlin's for confectionery, and Sarkiades Voyager for travel services. Bank branches include Bànca Ultramarìn, Hargreaves, Jindao-Tolbury, Rentenbank, and Société générale-RLB.
