Magia Regnum (Magian:魔法領域, Mahō Ryōiki; lit. Magic Realm) officially the High Magical Girl Realm of Magia Regnum (Magian: マギアレグナムの高魔法少女レルム; Mahō Ryōiki no Mahō Shōjo Rerumu), is an oceanic nation located in the middle of the Meager Ocean on the Dacia continent. Together with Lurynia at it's northern border and Regeliana at it's southern border it forms the "magical girl triad" on Sparkalia commonly referred to by Magians as the Magical Girl Realm. Magia Regnum is a powerful and influential magical girl nation with a strong sense of pride in its traditions and beliefs. This pride can sometimes lead to tensions with other nations, particualarly it's Magical Girl neighbors. As one of the oldest and most powerful magical girl nations, Magia Regnum regularly exerts it's influence across the realms of magic and the affairs of magical girls within Sparkalia of which it views with the utmost importance.

Etymology

The name for Magia Regnum in Magian is written using the kanji 魔法の領域 which is pronounced Mahō no Ryōiki - often shortned to Mahō Ryōiki. The 魔法 means Magic and 領域 realm or domain which has lead to the common epithet of "Realm of Magic." The common name "Magia Regnum" originated from the pronunciation of Lurynians and was introduced to common languages through early trade.

History

Beginning in 807 the tribal-like governance under the Elders saw a merger into a national force which saw to Magia Regnum being ruled under a new Theocractic Kraterocracy which favored the strongest magical girls over anything else. This was due to the fact that for many years since the bond between the Ōrumaiti and Magia Regnum the Ōrumaiti herself was dormant; only granting power to a small minority of the realm and seldom speaking to anyone. This lead to an elitist hierarchy system which put those who received power, The high authority rested in the office of the Proto-Master (Magian:プロトマスター Puroto Masutā) a military-like position which saw complete executive and military control of the nation. The Proto-Master was accompanied by a hand picked council known as the Tsuyoi-Mono (Magian:強いもの) which engaged in a mostly consensus process to oversee the nation. Under this, a strict class system was introduced which saw the Proto-Master and the strongest of magical girls, known as the Nyūsen ("Magian:入選), at the top, followed by the warrior-caste of magical girl fighters known as the Sentō-in (Magian:戦闘員), with those of non-magical or otherwise weak ability ranking below known as the Saiki no nai (Magian:才気のない). The government banned most foreigners under the isolationist policies which only favored magical girls and forbid anyone not of a magical class.

Government and Politics

The government of Magia Regnum is called the Kami no Kotoba (Magia:髪 の 言葉, Lit. Word of Heaven) commonly just referred to as the Kotoba. It is composed of three distinct branches. The Gaidansu (Magia:指導; lit. Guidance) which is the executive branch that manages the operations of Magia Regnum and oversees the worship of the Ōrumaiti. The Gaidansu is lead by the Haimajika which is the most senior position in Magia Regnum. The Haimajika is the only individual who is able to speak with the Ōrumaiti on a regular basis and is invested with significant religious influence and domestic policymaking. The Haimajika also represents the Ōrumaiti to its own people, and represents the nation to the rest of Sparkalia. The Haimajika also fulfills many ceremonial duties mostly dedicated to the Ōrumaiti. The Haimajika is appointed by the Ōrumaiti herself from among the ranks of the Gaidansu. The Haimajika typically serves for life. The current Haimajika is the elder Magical Girl Isami "Seeker Bell" Amari who has served since Pax 23rd, 1509.

The Tate-Shōsū (Magian:縦小数 lit. Denominated Few) is the unicameral legislature of Magia Regnum. It has 250 members appointed for a four-year terms by the Gaidansu with approval from the Seigi Kaikan. The Tate-Shōsū meets at least three times a year and in special occasion when called for by the Haimajika. While typically there is no political parties in Magia Regnum, members of the Tate-Shōsū often form "factions" within. The head of the is referred to as the Prime Shoujo who represents the Tate-Shōsū, signs documents and speaks on its behalf. The Prime Shoujo is usually selected by an internal vote from among the members of the Tate-Shōsū with a ceremonial appointment by the Haimajika. The Haimajika may object to the choice; however this is a rare occurrence. A Prime Shoujo typically serves 6 years and can be re-appointed indefinitely. The current Prime Shoujo is the Magical Girl Horiko "Galaxy Gem" Tomiyo who has served since Hilaria 15th, 1602.

The Seigi Kaikan (Magian:正義 会館; lit. Justice Hall) is the judicial body which oversees Magia Regnum's contract enforcement as well as the protectors of the nation as an interdimensional security force primary tasked with monitoring fighting off Otherspawn which may appear. It fills a unique role as both a judicial organization with it's Inspection Department (Magian:査察部; Sasatsu Bu) and Detention Bureau (Magian:拘留局; Kōryū-kyoku) but also a military role with the Armaments Service (Magian:武装隊 Busō Tai), Threat Countermeasure Department (Magian:脅威対策室 Kyōi Taisaku Shitsu), and Training Corps (Magian:教育隊 Kyōiku Tai). has three levels of courts: courts of first instance, courts of appeals, and the High Magia. The leader of both the Judicial and Military affairs is the Shuryō (Magian:主要; Chief) and is selected from among the Seigi Kaikan by the Haimajika. The Shuryō typically is expected to serve a term of at least 8 years, however there is no hard rule for their tenure due to the nature of the affairs of the Seigi Kaikan. The current Shuryō is Magical Girl Haruka "Honey Yohko" Asato who has served since Audax 4th, 1605.

Administrative Divisions

Magia Regnum is divided into 11 prefectures and one special administrative zone, each overseen by a workers' council.

Originally a part of Jinyuan prefecture, the special administrative zone Emishoto was established in 1597 after rampant Hoka Shoujo activity and has since beem occupied by Hoka camps. The borders are militarized and the area has since been a self-declared autonomous zone by it's inhabitants after the Kotoba announced they would focus on containment over taking the area immeadiately as it had other things to turn attention to.

Foreign Relations

As a result of its isolation, Magia Regnum seldom maintains relations with those it considers "outside the Magical Girl Realm; that is those that mainly lay outside of Dacia. Even then, Magia Regnum has a generally unfavorable attitude to those and considers most of the magical girl nations to simply be "tolerable." Initially, Magia Regnum had a strict policy of diplomatic ties only with others within the Magical Girl Realm, with a policy of what it considers eventually reunification with it's "former territories" - though what this actually means is often disputed - and a complete integration with Magical girls into a single body. However, Magia Regnum enjoys a warm relationship with Lurynia which is often considered it's closest ally and has since opened up to other nations; however it remains suspicious and distant of those who do not use magic.

Magian society is built around her influence and all magical girls within Magia Regnum sign a contract with her to receive their power. The contract obligates the magical girl to protect her and also provide her with a source of life force in exchange for granting them power which they may use to their own devices. As is an embodiment of purity, justice, and beauty drawing upon her grants the user the same thus the creation of the magical girl. Languages

The Magian language is an ancient language with a rich history that stretches back many centuries. It is a complex language that has evolved over time, incorporating various elements from other languages and dialects. Today, it is the national language of Magia Regnum, and it is spoken by the majority of the population. One of the most distinctive features of Magian writing is the use of kanji characters. In Magia Regnum, the use of kanji is an important part of the written language, and it is used to represent a wide range of concepts and ideas. The Magian language has its own unique characteristics that distinguish it from other languages. For example, it is known for its complex grammar and sentence structure, which can be difficult for non-native speakers to master. However, it is also a beautiful language, with a rich poetic tradition that has produced some of the most beautiful and enduring works of literature in the world.

The integration of the common alphabet and numerals into the Magian writing system has helped to make communication between Magia Regnum and other countries much easier. The common alphabet is a widely-used writing system that is used in many countries around the world, including the United States, the United Kingdom, and many other European countries. By integrating the common alphabet and numerals into the Magian writing system, Magia Regnum has been able to participate more fully in the global community and communicate more effectively with other countries. However, the increasing importance of international trade and communication has also led to the growing importance of Common as an international link language. Common is a widely-spoken language that is used in many countries around the world as a second language, and it has become an important tool for international communication. In the mid-1500s, Magia Regnum recognized the growing importance of Common and began to incorporate it into the education system. This included making Common classes mandatory at all levels of the education system, from elementary school to university.

Besides Magian and Common, Lurynian is also a popular choice for Magians due to the proximity of Magia Regnum with Lurynian Magocracy. Lurynian is a language spoken in the Lurynian Magocracy, which is located adjacent to Magia Regnum. Many Magians choose to learn Lurynian as a second language because it can be useful in trade and diplomacy with the Lurynian Magocracy. Furthermore, learning Lurynian can also open up opportunities for Magians to work and study in the Lurynian Magocracy, which is known for its advanced magical education and research institutions.

Education

The education system in Magia Regnum is overseen by the Kotoba, which is responsible for ensuring that education is compulsory at the elementary and lower secondary levels. This means that all children of school-going age, starting at age 6, are required to attend school up until a certain level, which helps to ensure that they receive a basic education that prepares them for life in the magical world. Most students in Magia Regnum attend public schools until the lower secondary level. These schools are generally well-funded and staffed by trained teachers who are equipped to provide students with a solid foundation in both academic and magic-related subjects. Students who attend public schools are exposed to a diverse range of students from different backgrounds, which helps to promote social cohesion and understanding.

However, private education becomes more popular at the upper secondary and university levels in Magia Regnum. This is because private schools often offer more specialized programs that are tailored to students' individual needs and interests. Private schools also tend to have smaller class sizes, which allows teachers to provide more individual attention to each student. Additionally, private schools often have more resources and better facilities, which can help to enhance the learning experience. Despite the popularity of private education in Magia Regnum, the Kotoba ensures that all schools, both public and private, adhere to the same basic standards of education. This helps to ensure that all students receive a basic education that prepares them for life in the magical world, regardless of the type of school they attend.

At the age of 10, most students in Magia Regnum are introduced to courses in magic and spellcasting. These courses typically cover the basics of magic, including the different types of spells, magical incantations, and the use of magical objects and creatures. Students learn how to cast spells, create potions, and summon magical creatures, among other things. These courses are designed to provide students with a solid foundation in magic that they can build upon as they progress through their education. In addition to learning how to use magic, students in Magia Regnum also receive classes on how to control and harness their own magical powers. These courses are intended to help students develop a deeper understanding of their own magical abilities, as well as to teach them how to use their powers responsibly. Students learn how to focus their magical energies, control their emotions, and avoid the negative side effects that can come with using magic improperly. Along with these magic-related courses, students in Magia Regnum also receive a strong foundation in core academic subjects, such as mathematics, science, language, and history. These subjects are taught alongside magic-related courses to ensure that students receive a well-rounded education that prepares them for the challenges they will face as they progress through their magical training.

As students approach the age where they may form a contract with the Ōrumaiti, they receive specialized training in combat and strategic thinking, as well as lessons on how to use magic to protect themselves and others. This training is essential for students to become responsible and skilled magical beings who can contribute positively to society. The combat training involves learning different techniques of fighting, such as hand-to-hand combat, weapons training, and magical combat. Students are taught how to use their powers to fight as well as how to strategically plan and execute battles. This includes learning how to analyze the strengths and weaknesses of an opponent and develop effective strategies to overcome them. In addition to combat training, students also receive lessons on how to use their magic to protect themselves and others. This includes learning how to cast protective spells and wards, as well as how to use their magic to heal and restore the health of others. Students are also taught how to identify and defend against dark magic, which can be harmful to both humans and magical creatures. The ultimate goal of this training is to prepare students to become responsible and skilled magical beings who can contribute positively to society.
