The Gaullican Empire had built out the first rail lines beginning in the 1840s, and by the 1880s there was a clear need for both a central station for the rails that crisscrossed the island and an interconnected shipping terminal that would allow for easy passenger and cargo connections to mainland [[Euclea]]. Pòrta Conìxia was intended to serve both of these needs. Passengers would enjoy seamless connections between steamships and local trains, with cargo shuttled back and forth just as easily. Planning began in the early 1890s, with construction starting in 1896.
