The Public Force (Montecaran: Fòrça Pùblica) is the unified military of Montecara. It consists of land, sea, and air components. The Public Force is responsible for defending Montecara's land, sea, and citizens. It conducts operations to safeguard Montecaran sovereignty and the safety of its territory and resources, as well as supporting allied forces, conducting search and rescue operations, and undertaking maritime law enforcement.
As required by the Constitution of Montecara, it is organized as a conscript force built upon a foundation of professional, career non-commissioned and commissioned officers. Under the country's system of citizen service, the bulk of personnel are conscripts serving 12- or 18-month terms, usually from age 18. Both males and females are called up for initial screening, with about two-thirds of males and one-third of females selected for service. Volunteer service is also available for males and females beginning at age 17. Once a conscript's term of service is complete, he or she is considered a qualified soldier and remains on the reserve list until reaching the age of 40 (for other ranks) or 45 (for officers).
As Montecara is a member of the Euclean Common Defense Treaty Organization (ECDTO), the Public Force collaborates with allied militaries across Euclea. Allied ships make regular calls at the Port of Montecara, and the state is protected by the ECTDO nuclear umbrella.
Structure
The Public Force is organized into three main environmental branches. The Montecaran Brigade (Brigàda Montecarà) is the ground force component, the Air Squadron (Scuàdra Aereà) is the aerospace component, and the Marine Squadron (Scuàdra Marìn) is the seaborne component.

Conscription
Montecara practices conscription for a term of 12 or 18 months, usually beginning at graduation from secondary school at age 18. All able-bodied citizens and permanent residents, male and female, are eligible. New recruits take a battery of physical and academic tests. Based on their results, they may be assigned to a remedial physical fitness course or move directly on to recruit training. The basic training course lasts 12 weeks, during which recruits learn the rudiments of military skills and discipline. Once a conscript's term of service is complete, he or she is considered a qualified soldier and remains on the reserve list until reaching the age of 40 (for other ranks) or 45 (for officers).
