The Kingdom of Guesmand, or simply Guesmand, is a sovereign coastal nation in western Meredonne. Guesmand has a total area of ______km² with an estimated population of around 39 million as of December 2021.

Guesmand is a constitutional monarchy governed via a parliament. The Kingdom is divided into 13 divisions, or provinces, with the King directly governing the capital. The current King, Aran Emmanuel II, has ruled the nation since 1997. The seat of government is the capital Chieda, a conurbation with a population of over 38 million. Other major cities include Modia, Capigano and Echigia.

The Kingdom's history reaches back to the 1300s, when various dukedoms settled the area currently known as Inner Guesmand. Said dukedoms constantly warred with each other, until two major polities came to dominate the region in the 1500s: The kingdom of Guesca and state of Mandiera. In 1873 the two polities entered a personal union with their leaders acting as joint rulers; this state was known as the Kingdom of Guesca-Mandiera. In 1897, King Alessandro II of Guesca died, but before his eldest son Vittorio I could ascend King Maurizio of Mandiera moved to strip the Guescans of their power in the dual parliament, which was accepted after much bribery of Guescan politicians. Meanwhile Maurizio fabricated charges of treason and adultery against Vittorio I, ordered the Guescan royal family's arrest and forced them into exile. Vittorio himself was murdered under suspicious circumstances in 1901.

Later the Kingdom of Guesmand was proclaimed, and it still exists to this day.

Etymology

Guesmand comes from a portmanteau of two words: Guesca and Mandiera, which in turn were two major kingdoms in the 19th century that entered a personal union, only for Mandiera to plot Guesca's downfall and consolidate its power. A popular foreign name was Guesmand, which later began to influence the government itself and the nation was formally named Guesmand in 1908.
