The Avadian Civilization, also known as the Avadian Empire, was one of the largest empires in pre-Colonial Meredonne. The administrative, political and military center of the empire was in the ancient city of Ava . The Avadian civilization's origins are unknown but they are speculated to have arose from somewhere in northern Meredonne sometime before 1000 B.C.E. Its last known stronghold was conquered by the West-Protisean Trade Company of Kentalis in 1603.

The height of the Avadian Civilization lasted from From around 1250 to 1578, in which the they incorporated a large portion of central Meredonne, including the Layfetian Cape and centered on modern day Layfet, using conquest and peaceful assimilation, among other methods. It was able to conquer other pre-colonial civilizations in the area including the ancestors of the Cataese, Kohharuse, Hogganse, and Oharuese. Its official language was Avadian.

The civilization was unique in that it lacked many of the features associated with other civilizations across the globe. Anthropologist Joseph Noran wrote that the Avaians were able to thrive despite not knowing or using of the technologies of other civilizations of time as well as their masterful use of water. Notable features of the Avadian Empire include its monumental irrigation systems and extensive road network.

Today the Avadian civilization exists as a domestic-dependent nation (native reservation) known as Avadia in the Layfetian state of Thentar. This modern Avadia lacks most of the characteristics of the ancient civilization it is derived from.

Etymology

The Avadian referred to their civilization as "Ava" This was in turn used by the West-Protisean Trade Company to create the word "Avadian" or "Avadia" in reference to the civilization.
