Etymology

"Memea" originally applied to the Empire of Memea and the "North" part of the name refers to the fact that the nation occupies the northern portion of the former Memean Empire.

In the Grearabic Language, the territory of North Memea is known as Shaios Vaslaka , literally meaning Northern Kingdom.

History

Early History (3000BCE-380BCE)

Arabs, some of the country's earliest inhabitants, were rumored to be replaced by Hellenic settlers between 3000 BCE to 1000 BCE, who according to local legend were lead by the explorer Memeros got blown off course whilst sailing to Insulamo. The Hellenic settlers from a distinctive Grearabic culture, which was a mixture of the Hellenic and Arabic cultures. Around 410 BCE King Al-Xandar formed the Empire of Memea, which lasted till his death around 380 BCE. The empire was then spilt between his sons. His eldest son, King Al-Xandar II took over the northern portion of Memea, forming the Kingdom Of North Memea.

They used a monarchist system for the time they ruled over the area, and were successful. They had an organized military from around 350BCE and were one of the first civilizations to farm olives in Thrismari

The Minorus Dynasty (500AD-1378AD)

From 500AD-1378AD, the Minorus Dynasty ruled over North Memea, constantly declaring invasions to the nations south of the border with varying success.

In 548 AD Christianity arrived in Memea, with the local Memeans quickly adopting the religion. In 600 AD, King Al-Xeious caused a schism within the church after having many disagreements with the church concerning theology, forming Memean Christo, a more fundamental sect of Christianity.

The Minorus Dynasty held onto power in North Memea by only passing the throne to relatives that bear the family name. But a string of incompetent rulers eventually led to a coup in 1378 where the Marshal of North Memea, Rahal Deciboros, aided by discontent vassals and soldiers, took power from the 5 year old King Al-Xandar VI. Marking the end of the Minorus Dynasty.

The Era Of Shadow (1378AD-1520 AD)

Not much is known about the events that have occurred since Deciboros' Coup. Thus many historians label this time period The Era Of Shadow, as many historical documents from the time have been lost, But from what we know, North Memea fell into a state of instability, with many vassals vying for more control and foreign nations taking advantage of North Memea's weakened state.

It is widely accepted that the empire fell into a period of stagnation after King Rahal's death, as detailed by the The Silence Of A Kingfish, a 16th century novel by an unknown author. In which it describes a 200 year period of instability, where North Memea fell into chaos. Many legendary figures come from this period from Shah Memid, Duke Fathen and Marshal Decioformoso. In the end Marshal Decioformoso takes over North Memea after beating The Yalthens League at The Battle Of The Beaten in 1520AD. The accuracy of this source is disputed as many consider this piece to be Decioformoso propaganda.

The North Memean Golden Age (1520AD-1750AD)

From around 1520AD, the Decioformoso Dynasty took control of North Memea. They instituted many social and political reforms, causing an era of economic prosperity due to their geographic location. In the late 16th Century, North Memea became a central trade hub in the region as it was the only nation in the continent to grow olives, which was brought in by the Hellenic settlers.

But in the 17th Century The North Memean Golden Age, began to stall, resulted by a string of mediocre rulers, yet again causing another coup by Wallib Barlibashar, who successfully took power, this resulted in the foundation of the Barlibashar Dynasty which would rule over North Memea till 1941.

The 200 Years Of Shame (1800AD-1941AD)

During the 19th to 20th century, North Memea failed to industrialize resulting in its status as a global power to diminish. This resulted in many of its colonies declaring independence from North Memea. Many revolts occurred around the Kingdom.

A political crisis was underway in North Memea, with many wishing for radical reform in the government. Some wanted to democratize the nation, whilst others wished to implement foreign ideologies into the country. This all came to a head in 1941, the North Memean Spring occurred resulting in the death of the then current king King Talivo Barlibashar II. The power vacuum left by the death of the King resulted in the North Memean Civil War.
