Nicolás Antonio Valerio de San Francisco y Santísimo Salvador Carrero de Azcona (26 February 1781 - 1 June 1848) was a Montillan military and political leader, widely regarded as the founding father of the country after leading it through the War of Independence against the Canterian Empire. He is colloquially known as El Guerrero Nacional or El Vencedor.

Nicolás de Azcona was born in San Marcos del Guerrero (formerly San Marcos del Imperio) to a family of wealthy Montillan-born colonists, owners of more than half of the lands in the region of Yanagua. He inherited his parent's fortune at the age of 17 after both died in a hurricane, and making use of the education received from teachers coming from Canteria, immediately became active in local politics, pitching in with his own wealth to help repair the colonial infraestructure after the disaster.
