The 109th Congress of Zamastan was a meeting of the legislative branch of the Zamastanian federal government, between September 22nd 2020 and September 22nd 2022. It was composed of the Senate and the Congress Chamber.
Polls and commentators had predicted the outcome of the 2020 election would be too close to call and would result in a second consecutive hung parliament. Opinion polls were eventually proven to have underestimated the Bloc Mayotte vote as the party swept its provincial elections and 15% of Congress Chamber seats and 17% of Senate seats. The Green Liberal Party took the majority for the first time since 2006, leading to Natasha Chastain's election as Speaker of the Chamber and Leonard Hudson's election as Senate President. The Blue Conservatives subsequently lost their nearly 14 year majority in both houses, and party leader and former Speaker Larious Maxwell resigned due to misconduct allegations.
Following the Bettencourt Protests and the subsequent Bettencourt v Government of Zamastan decision in late 2020, the secession of Auraine, Alutiana, and Mayotte led to the suspension of voting powers for all lawmakers from those provinces to prevent a constitutional crisis. The election is in retrospect considered to have begun a political realignment in Zamastan's electoral politics, marking the end of the traditional three-party domination seen for most of the previous century.
