This is a Freician name. The last name is matronymic, not a family name; this person is referred to by the given name Kiso.

Kiso Toma KM MS (基礎 トマ, born 28 May 1964) is a Freician artist and Future Citizens politician who currently serves as Speaker of the General Kiuva and Member of the General Kiuva for Mopeta Pratsa since 2023.

She is seen as Kana's number two in the party, both in terms of position and her close political relationship with him. She is also regarded as being on the left of the party, emphasising a left-libertarian political outlook, supporting social ownership of property as a means of achieving personal freedom.[1]

Early life

Kiso was born on 28 May 1968 in Soni to Naru and Toma Goda (née Nara). She is the first in her family to use traditional Freician naming conventions, taking a matronymic for her second name rather than her father's surname.[2] Her father was a journalist and researcher for Radio and Television Freice, whilst her mother was a carer. Her grandfather, Kaoru Miyake, served in the Imperial Hoterallian Navy and was stationed in Freice from 1927 until the end of Hoterallian Governance in 1931. He left the navy at this time and settled permanently in Freice.[3]

Education and career

She graduated from the University of Gerkoller with a Bachelor of Arts. She returned to Freice upon graduation and qualified to teach art, teaching at Aolo'i Kerna ruu from 1992 until 2000.[3] During this time, she established herself as a prominent artist, with a number of works put on public display. Her most famous work is Plamago ('Bloom'), which was displayed as part of the RHFH's Art and Nature exhibition in 2008.The piece won the Freice National Art Prize in 2009 and was displayed in the Assembly of Delegates building during its 2009-2010 session.[4]

Plamago (Bloom).

In 2000, she moved to Geri (now Roheo Radei Oratite) and became vice-principal of Alui'i Kerna aua.[2]

In 2005, she was appointed vice-president of Freice-Hoterallian Friendship Association (RHFH).[5] In this capacity she welcomed the Hoterallian foreign minister to Freice in 2007.[6]

As vice-president, she played an important role in strengthening Freco-Hoterallian relations, welcoming the Hoterallian foreign minister to Freice in 2007 and advising the Freician government on its policies regarding the Hoterallian community in Freice.[6] Kiso returned to teaching upon leaving her post.

Kiso has been an active trade unionist, serving as representative for Geri at the Freice Teacher's Union conference in 1996, 1997, and 1999.[3] She joined Kana's Empowered Citizens shortly after its founding and was elected to the newly-created Peka District Authority in June 2022.

In the 2023 Freician general election, Kiso was elected to the General Kiuva and, on 23 January 2023, was elected speaker.[7]

Honours

Kiso was awarded the Silver Medal of the General Kiuva in 2022, entitling her to use the post-nominal letters MS.[7] As a speaker of the General Kiuva, she is entitled to use the style Honourable for life.
