The Vilerian Imperial Navy is the navy and second branch of the Vilerian Imperial Armed Forces, they are the naval detterent force of the armed wing of the Empire of Vileria.
History
The Vilerian Imperial Navy dates back to 1597 and went through multiple forms. The modern one however emmerged in 1905 with the Decree of the Imperial Navy which standardized on a finite number of ships per period.
The first fleet to have been constructed was started in 1906 and fully completed in 1915, it was composed of 1 pre-aircraft carrier, 8 dreadnoughts, 21 cruisers, 45 destroyers and 12 submarines. They were used to protect the Canton Delta and the Chhakasamout Gulf, making them the dominant naval power in the region at the time. Later on, in 1930, the Navy had to modernized and scuttled their dreadnoughts to build a fleet of 4 battleships, the Vengeance, Nouvel Empire, Amirauté and Courage which were very advanced during that time. They also added 8 battlecruisers to the fleet. The navy later modernized its destroyers and cruisers to fit more modern standards of the time.
In 1950, the fleet decided to entirely remake its fleet. Placing an order of 2 CATOBAR aircraft carriers called the Monarque and Bellérophon, the later of which will experiment with the angled deck technology, which would be a success that will be implemented in the next class of aircraft carriers, both now rest as museum ships. They also put an order for 8 new battleships that would be operational for a planned 20 years until their immediate retirement in 1967, all of them laying as museum ships to this day. Submarines were one of the greatest pride of the Imperial Navy, they built 3 different classes that were composed of 15 submarines each and which all receive refits through the 1970s and ultimately, for most, scuttled or sold to scrap, only 3 remain as museum ships, one per class. The later navy was also composed of 20 cruisers of 5 different classes, the earliest class were completed by the mid 1950s and the latest by the end of the 1960s. As for the destroyers, there were 68 total, about 26 of them are museum ships today and were the first destroyers in Vilerian history to be equipped with RG-1Mv20 radar.
In the 1960s, the Imperial Department of Defense prepared themselves for the next generation of aircraft carriers, they planned 3 Sylvanie-Class aircraft carriers named the Sylvanie, Provence and Louisiane, all three were finished planning and built, then commissionned in 1969. They were an enormous success and were seconded by 6 landing helicopter assault ships.
Until recently, the navy operated a single-ship-in-class aircraft carrier named the Astral, she was commissioned in 1995 and served only 15 years, the admiralty currently debates on what to do with the warship: Scrapping, modernizing or sent as a museum ship. The current navy operates 1 landing helicopter assault and one light aircraft carrier from Neuewland, which will be operated for 7 years until 2030, which could potentially signify the return of the Astral into active service.
