Alseeria, officially the Divine Republic of Alseeria, is a sovereign country on the world of Anteria, located on the continent of Atracia. It borders the nations of Arkatzia to the south, Viha to the north, and a colonial territory of Aziallis to the north-west. Alseeria has a significantly large coastline, and almost all of it's inhabitants live on or close to it. The capital and largest city is Muraqaba, which serves as a political, cultural, and economic capital.

Alseerian history dates back to ancient times, when the region was populated by numerous Alseerian tribes. They were unified under the Salanid Empire in 1411, leading to the spread of Caloism as the dominate religion of the area. The empire had collapsed by 1800, leading to the 100 year long warlords era, which ended when the last warlords were conquered by the Kingdom of Muraqaba, which founded the Kingdom of Alseeria in the year 1912. In 1982, the monarchy was overthrown in the Violet Revolution, leading to the foundation of the Republic of Alseeria under the rule of Alea Gutar. Soon after it fought a prolonged war with Arkatzia, resulting in thousands of deaths on both sides and ending in a military stalemate. After the war, Alseeria went through a period of economic and industrial growth, brought on by a massive increase in oil trade. This period ended in about 2013 during the great recession, and hasn't fully recovered as of 2019.

Alseeria is officially a Unitary one-party theocratic republic. Despite this, manly international reports have labelled Alseeria as a de facto totalitarian dictatorship under Supreme Leader Maslanka Rashad. Rashad has held almost absolute control over the government after her declaration of a state of emergency in 2002 following a terrorist attack, granting herself dictatorial like powers and instating martial law. The nation also boasts what has sometimes been referred to as a "disproportionately large" military, with almost 13% of it's GDP being spent to the military, as well as enforcing mandatory military service for all it's citizens. The country has also been criticized for it's poor treatment of the Pujabi people, brought on by the ongoing Pujabi Insurgency within the country.

History

Salanid Dynasty

In the year 1395, Alsera Salanid was crowned King of Calaat, one of the largest independent kingdoms in modern Alseeria. Salanid led his armies on a 21-year conquest of the neighboring kingdoms, ending in the year 1411 with the conquest of the Kingdom of Muraq. That same year, Alsera proclaimed the foundation of the Salanid Empire under his rule. Alsera died in 1419, and was succeeded by his son Alsera II. Under Alsera II, the empire went through a process of religious conversion in which most of the region was converted to Caloism from their respective ethnic religions.

The Salanid Dynasty ruled Alseeria for more than 400 years, and remained a regional power throughout it's reign. This period is oftentimes referred to by modern scholars as "Paxana Alseer", or the "Alseerian Golden Age". The Salanid Dynasty came to an end following a series of droughts starting in 1756, leading the people to believe god was punishing the Salanid Dynasty for greed and debauchery. Numerous groups seized power and rebelled within the empire, and by 1800 the Salanid Emperor remained only a figurehead in Muraqaba overseeing a land governed by dozens of warlord groups.

Warlords Era

In 1815, the last Salanid Emperor was taken captive and executed publicly in Maraqaba square after the city was invaded. After the death of the last Emperor, all semblance of unity among the warlord groups ended and mass warfare took place across the nation. Modern scholars put the death toll caused by the 100-year long warlord era to be around 2 million, though some argue this may be too high. The warlord era ended after the Conquests of the Kingdom of Muraqaba, which ended in 1912 when the final warlord was conquered and the Kingdom of Muraqaba transitioned into the Kingdom of Alseeria.

Kingdom of Alseeria

Though Alseeria was now unified, the kingdom's existence was plagued with instability. The Kingdom slowly came to be controlled by foreign interests, particularly colonial powers such as Aziallis and Shadowveil, who sought to establish control over rubber trade from the nation.

Revolution

In 1979, a massive economic depression left millions homeless and hundreds of thousands starving on the streets. A lack of response by the Alseerian government, increased economic dependence on colonial powers, and a perceived abandonment of Alseerian culture and religious law by the Alseerian government led to the Violet Revolution in 1982.

In March of 1982, republican revolutionaries known as "The Liberators", led by Alea Gutar, raided the Imperial Palace and placed the King under arrest. Over revolutions across the country toppled provincial governments, while many provincial leaders swore allegiance to the new government. Though many powerful figures swore loyalty to the King, the King decided to abdicate on April 17th, and soon after fled the country to Arkatzia. By June, The Liberators had consolidated their power over the country and founded the Republic of Alseeria. Alea Gutar was sworn in as Alseeria's first President in July. Gutar oversaw the establishment of the National Unity Party, which emphasized unity under Caloism and Alseerian culture. The regime quickly came to be highly intolerant of religious and ethnic minorities, particularly the Pujabi.

Alseer-Arkatzian War

In 1983, Arkatzia launched a massive invasion of Alseeria to seize control of the North Pujabi region, which Arkatzia claimed as it's own. After a successful initial invasion, Arkatzia continued north in an attempt to take Muraqaba and overthrow the hostile and internationally hated Alseerian State regime and replace it with a friendly regime. However, their invasion was soon stalled and quickly turned back. Following a total collapse of the Arkatzian army, Alseeria launched a massive offensive, retaking their land and advancing into northern Arkatzia. Arkatzia sued for peace, ceding the entire Pujabi region north of the Sala River to Alseeria. The war is credited with having legitimized the new government of Alseeria, as well as leading to the collapse of Arkatzia and the Arkatzian Civil War.

Modern

Following the Arkatzian retreat from southern Alseeria, the Artkazian army handed massive supplied of weapons over to Pujabi independence rebels. Soonafter the ceasefire with Arkatzia was signed, numerous Pujabi rebel groups merged to form the United Pujab Freedom Front, beginning a mass scale insurgency which continues to this day. Though the Alseerian government secured victory in the Alseer-Artkatzian war, devastation and high costs from the war led to the nation faltering on the brink of bankruptcy for almost 20 years following it's conclusion. Alea Gutar died in 2007, and was succeeded by his personally designated successor Maslanka Rashad as President. Following a terrorist attack by Pujabi terrorists in 2018, Maslanka issued a state of emergency, giving herself dictatorial powers over the nation and instating martial law. Pressure against the Pujabi have led to numerous human rights groups designating her actions as "almost genocidal" and a "blatant attempt to destroy the Pujabi culture", such as the mass interment of suspected terrorists and widespread executions and persecution of the Pujabi religion.
