The IFA World Cup is the largest footballing event in Anteria. Hosted every two years by different nations, the World Cup has been on since 1888, however the 1905-1910 World Cups were cancelled due to the ongoing Great War at the time. The World Cup is important to Anterian culture and national relations.

History

The first World Cup was played in Layfet in 1888, and competed in by most nations at the time. The final was played by Kentalis who won 3-1, making history for the first ever World Cup win. Also in the 1800s, Kentalis win a second World Cup in a row in 1890, being a golden era for the nation.

In 1898, Halsuntria, an extremely successful team on the national stage, wins the world cup for the first time in the biggest blowout win in World Cup Finals history, 6-0. Halsuntria would win again in 1918 in similar fashion winning 7-3.

As news spread of global conflict in Anteria, the IFA confirmed the World Cup would be cancelled until further notice in 1905. When the war ended in 1911, the World Cups resumed with the World Cup 1912.

In 1930, Gavrilia, the most successful team in World Cup history, wins their first World Cup in a 2-2 penalty win over Halsuntria. In the same decade, the Veritian Empire won the World Cup for the only time in the nations history, and in their home nation. However, most importantly during the 1930s-40s was Halsuntria's soccer dynasty in which they won 4/6 cups held from 1932 to 1942. They have only win one cup since 1942 (in 1990) and have not come close to their dynasty in the 1930's. Halsuntria has won 8 cups, second most only behind Gavrilia.

In the 40s, Kistolia win their first World Cup.

The 50s was an exciting and competitive era not only for football but for the World Cup too. It began with the 1950 World Cup, where Gavrilia beat Kistolia in the final. Next began what is known as the 'Arany Korszak' or 'Golden Era' for Lyonheimer as they clutch their first of two World Cups they won that decade, with a 3-1 victory over Halsuntria in the final in 1954. In 1956 Gavrilia won their third of nine cups. In the 1958 World Cup, Lyonheimer had an extremely lucky run, notably with a penalty win over Halsuntria in the quarter finals, however they made it to the final and won in a 'clutch' 1-0 win.

The 1960s began with New Sebronia's first WC title, in a 3-2 win. In the 1962 WC, Gavrilia would win again.
