The Free City of Marzstra (Marzstran Arabic: مدينة مارزسترا الحرة) also simply known as Marzstra (مارزسترا) is a dependent territory of Gassasinia located about 30km away from its coast. It has a small population of about 1 million inhabitants, mainly Marzstrans, Gassasinians, and Jews.

Marzstra has a hilly landscape that covers an area of 1,066 square kilometers (412sqmi) with an oceanic mediterranean climate.

HISTORY SUMMARY

Marzstra is a unitary parliamentary dependent territory of Gassasinia and a developed country with an advanced, high-income social market economy. It has excellent welfare programs, with universal health care and tuition-free university education. It is considered to be one of the safest places to live.

Etymology

The name Marzstra comes from the name of the local tribe which was in control of the island when Riamese colonizers came. The tribe itself was named Marizsin (ماريزسين), supposedly after one of the first rulers of the community, which massively improved the living conditions, gave to the poor, and cared for all of her citizens. It is assumed that she came up with the name herself, or that it was given to her by her family as a nickname.

Marzstran Arabic is very similar to Gassasinian Arabic, with only a few differences, mainly in pronunciation. Before Marzstran Arabic, Aramaic was the main and official language of Marzstra, however, the language is now considered extinct. The shift from Aramaic to Arabic happened during the Riamese colonization, with a massive influx of Gassasinian workers migrating to Marzstra for new job opportunities.

History

Marzstran history is very long and peaceful, which leads to the title "The Traffic Jam History". However, what Marzstra lacks in bloodshed, it compensates for with literature, arts, and music. Marzstra has a very long history of many art departments. It is also the home country of famous philosophers and zoologists.

Very early Marzstran history starts approximately 500,000 years BCE. The oldest proof of Marzstran civilization is a necklace, which probably belonged to a powerful man. This necklace was discovered in southeastern Marzstra.

Marzstra is a parliamentary republic based on the Westminster system. It is often considered a dominant-party democracy. The Marzstran Consitution (دستور مرزستران) is the supreme law of the dependency, as it establishes the structure and responsibilities of it’s government. The Mayor is the head of state and excercises executive power on the advice of her ministers. The Head of Parliament is the head of government and is appointed by the Senate during a vote. The House of Nobles is set up by the Parliament.

Transportation

Public transportation is a key part of Marzstran government spending, as car ownership rates are low. The country has metro, tram, trolleybuses, and a railway link from mainland Gassasinia to Marzstra Central Station () in the downtown area.
