Brilliania (Brillian: Berilinako), officially the Republic of Brilliania, formerly the Brillian Republic (Brillian: Errepublika Berilinako) is a sovereign state in Eastern Asura bordered by the Gulf of Sclavonia and the nations of Miersa, Veleaz and Dreyvisevich. Brilliania consists of 10 provinces, 9 regular provinces and the specially administered capital of Saranegertu. It is an unitary semi-presidential republic with around 16.5 million inhabitants. Ethnic Brillian people, which speak the isolated Brillian language make up 79% of the population, with a significant minority of Iparinans from the southeastern region of Iparina.
Brilliania, officially known as the Federal Republic of Brilliania (Hungarian language: Berílet Szövetségi Köztársaság), is a landlocked country sovereign state located in northeast Asura, bordered by Elhazia in the northwest, Krovech in the northeast, Chokashia in the southeast and Lachnow in the south. As of the 2015 census, Brilliania is inhabited by around 24 million citizens. The sole official language in Brilliania is Hungarian language, which with around 21 million speakers is one of the most spoken Uralic languages in the world, and one of the largest non-Indo-European languages spoken in Asura. The largest city in Brilliania is Szentmári, with its capital being the planned city of Szaraneközel; with other major cities including Endrőd, Angyalok and Szentmári.

The territory of Brilliania has been populated for several thousand years, with the first evidence of civilization being traced to 3000 years ago. The ancient Herritxa civilization existed until 600 BC. The language which was spoken by the Herritxa civilization is currently still unknown.
The predecessor to the modern-day Brillian state was established in the 13th century by the Grand Diet of King Miklós III, swiftly conquering multiple pagan Petty kingdom. Under the rule of Miklós III, the work of Saint Mári became codified, resulting in a revival of Brillian paganism under the new Marist tradition. A semi-succesful crusade by Alydian forces from the west of Asura resulted in a partial conversion and the loss of parts of the Marist Brillian kingdom which co-existed with Alydian petty kingdoms. A joint diet formed by the Alydian princes resulted in the formation of the Széntláng Kingdom under the Szábó dynasty. Following the Battle of Gyoma in 1580, the Széntláng Kingdom reached its golden age of cultural and political height with its territory being at around 65% of modern Brillian territory. In 1826, the targeted killing of King Arpád VI of the Széntláng Kingdom by operatives paid by the Marist Brilliania resulted in a popular uprising in Brilliania and a civil war which resulted in a reform-minded republic taking power which resulted in the signing of the Republican Unification Contract in 1850, resulting in a binational Brillian state under secular rule for the first time. Tensions between Marists and Alydianists resurfaced in 1888 resulting in a civil war and a disjointed response to the First Great War (Aeia), with both sides supporting the Concordat due to international pressure. A ceasefire in 1903 resulted in the first election in Brillian history, with a Constitutional Convention being called in order to create a constitution. After 8 years without a constitution, the secular fascist Homeland Protection Units performed a swift military coup d'état and imposed an oppressive secular government under the National Order. Democracy was restored in the aftermath of the Neverfading Revolution in 1954, with the Contract of Szaraneközel in 1988 further defusing tensions after the capital city was moved from Szentmári to the planned city of Szaraneközel as a neutral point.

Brilliania was pagan until the 11th century, practising a religion called Marism. Alydianism was introduced by western Alydian crusaders, in the form of Orthodox Alydianism. It was partially supplanted in the 17th century by Puritan Alydianism because of Veleazan missionarries. The contact with Veleazan missionaries caused an exchange of Veleazan words in the Brillian language while Brillian words also entered into Veleazan.
Brilliania is a developed country middle power with a World Bank high-income economy service economy and a high standard of living. Administratively, it is divided into 7 provinces including the capital city of Szaraneközel. Its historical and cultural heritage give it an international presence in art, music, literature, science and technology. It has been a member of the CDN since 1955, along with membership in organisations such as the APHO, AEA and the WECO.

Brilliania was ruled by a monarchy for almost a thousand years, starting when Prince Ganiz unified several Brillian towns in the year 964, and ending with the execution of Prince Ilurdo by communists in 1931. However, the Prince became mostly ceremonial in 1887, with the creation of the first parliament of Brilliania. The parliament was unique in the fact that every adult man was able to vote in elections, although women were never enfranchised.
Etymology
The name Brilliania is an exonym of an uncertain thirteenth-century origin most likely derived from the name of early Marist priest Saint Beri, being reloaned from an unknown foreign source. Although authors from Brilliania denonymated themselves until the fifteenth century as máncs, modern Brillian uses the reloaned term berilia instead.

The antiquated domestic term máncs originated as a term referring to a male who took part in a pagan ritual assembly, reconstructed as being originated from Proto-Finno-Ugric *mäńć (man, person). The current term berilia originated as a term referring to Marist soldiers active during the Alydian crusades in Brilliania, who followed the religious teachings of priest Beri and actively fought against crusaders, causing the crusaders to refer to all who fought against them during the Brillian crusade as followers of Beri, despite Beri and his followers being a relatively small grouping.

In 1933, profiting from the anarchy started by Prince Ilurdo's execution, and a bombing on the Parliament while it was in session, the Aeian Socialist Union and communist militia succesfully conquered Brilliania. This started 46 years of oppression by the communists, with the execution of up to 14,000 prominent individuals.
Independence was proclaimed on the 6th of December in the year 1979, causing the Brillian government in exile to join the secessionist side in the ASU Civil War. The Civil War was bloody, with 15,000 people, mostly civilians, dying. One of the most prominent murders in the ASU Civil War were the Sirizio Defenestrations, where Communist spies in Asura killed 15 diplomats in embassies of the in-exile government of the Republic of Brilliania by throwing them out of windows.
After the Civil War, Brillian independence was internationally recognized. Brilliania is a developed country with a high-income service-based economy, which grew massively between 2002 and 2015 during the "Brillian Boom". It ranks very highly in the Human Development Index. Brillian citizens have a high quality of life, assisted by massive technology investments since the Blue Revolution, low-cost education and a state healthcare system. Despite governmental investments in social security, income inequality is relatively high, with a medium ranking for Gini.

Neverfading Revolution and the Contract of Szaraneközel
Republic of Brilliania (1979- current)
The government resisted any form of internationalisation and developed Brilliania into an isolationalism state, until June 1955 when the bloodless Neverfading Revolution (also known as the Amaranth Revolution) resulted in the restoration of democracy culminating with the passing of the Instrument of Democratic Renewal by dissident members of the National Order in the National Assembly. The Instrument, together with the Gyors Forradalmi Pálya (GyFP, Swift Revolutionary Course), was characterised by the development of ideological tensions in both religious and ideological spheres, which were united by the Neverfading Revolution but quickly fell into discord regarding the means to implement the Swift Revolutionary Course. During the period of the GyFP, the first ever fully democratic election in Brillian history was held. Prior to the GyFP being ended in 1959, Brilliania was ruled by a technocracy government, including the period after the convention and election of the Constitutional Assembly.
After the ASU Civil War ended, Brilliania started its transition to democracy. The ceremonial renaming of the city of Sirizio (named after the first president of the Brillian Soviet) to Martiriren Herria (Town of Martyrs) marked the symbolic end of socialism in Brilliania. The first free elections resulted in the big-tent opposition movement Brillian Forum for Democracy winning, beating the communist heirs Social Democratic Movement by a landslide. Rapid introductions of economic changes and constitutional changes including the addition of a directly elected president proved unpopular, with the second elections in 1984 giving the Social Democrats an absolute majority in the Muntaia. Elections between 1988 and 2001 caused the Forum to gain popularity, becoming a dominant party. Many Asuran observers considered Brilliania to have one of the most antiquated and conservative constitutions in Asura.
The political climate after the Neverfading Revolution was volatile, with the growth of counter-culture movemnts such as the Szentmári Scene being combined with ideological radicalisation. In 1961, moderate Marism movements co-existed with the radical Fire Movement (Tűzmozgalom), which emerged as a major radical organisation supporting a 'new crusade' by Alydian states against the Marist population. However, it did not get the support of nearly all Alydian clergy and became a pariah in the National Assembly by being put under a Cordon_sanitaire#National_politics. The vote was widely controversial within the party and resulted in the formation of an identically named paramilitary organisation in 1981 which was responsible for at least 9 different attacks on MPs and 25 attacks on civilians. In 1985, the Fire Movement signed the Contract of Szaraneközel, resulting in the capital city of Brilliania being moved to the planned city of Szaraneközel under the condition of total disarnment and monetary compensation for victims. In the period after the Contract of Szaraneközel, the city of Szaraneközel was quickly developed into the new capital city of Brilliania by means of controlled building development and massive governmental input. Parts of the development were marred by massive corruption, with multiple acquaintances of president Tibor Kásler gaining major contrats for several vital parts of the town.
Protests in 2002 caused by the rising unpopularity of the Forum with younger generations and the growing levels of liberalization of society caused the downfall of the Forum with newer parties such as the Democrats of Brilliania, Elkarrekin Movement, Alliance of Young Patriots and the Brilliania Not For Sale Movement gaining rapid popularity. The Democrats of Brilliania won a plurality in the early elections in 2003, allowing it to make a grand coalition with the Elkarrekin Movement to have the two-thirds supermajority required to amend or remake the constitution. The 2005 constitution introduced laws liberalizing the Brillian political atmosphere and modernizing the constitution to reflect the liberalization of the Brillian society.
The two worst terrorist attacks in Brillian history occurred in 2018. In August, a suicide bombing by the far-left terrorist organization Black Brigades at the Zamalloa Hall in Saranegertu causing 49 deaths including influential politician Amaia Sarasketa. On the 6th of December, a hostage situation at the Ortzadar Special High School in Martiriren Herria caused the deaths of 672 students.
Millenium Revolution
In 1998, President Ábel Farkas of the Brillian Conservative Party replaced fellow party member Tibor Kásler as the President in presidential elections. His opponent Viktor Kassai challenged the results to the Constitutional Court and produced video evidence of ballot stuffing, catalyzing the start of protests held by his supporters. Rallies held by Kassai supporters were regularly attacked by pro-government forces, culminating in the death of five protesters by means of police violence. When Viktor Kassai's son András leaked documents detailing corruption within the development of Szaraneközel, he was promptly poisoned with ricin by means of a small pellet shot into his leg, although he survived the incident.

On New Years Day 2000, a massive protest with an estimated attendance of over 1,5 million was held in Szentmári, demanding the dissolution of parliament, reforming the election method for presidential elections and the sentencing of Farkas for being complicit in corruption. Farkas' coalition was fragile and relied on the Centre Party to prevent the acceptance of a motion of no confidence. The Centre Party voted in favour of the Presidential Impeachment Emergency Bill tabled by the Democratic Force party, sparking a constitutional crisis as Farkas signed a decree for snap elections five minutes prior to impeachment without any notification to the parliament.

The crisis was the direct cause for an even larger protest in March, with a turnout of nearly 2,5 million close to Farkas' residence in Szaraneközel. The emerging internet was a major factor in organising the protest, with the protest being referred to in international media as the first ever internet-originated protest. The police resorted to harsh measutres including tear gas, causing an escalation of violence. A police officer was directly caught using his service weapon to shoot at protestors, resulting in the death of a 17-year old protestor and wounding 29 others. The Gendarmerie sided with the protesters, resulting in pressure ramping up. On 3 April 2000, Ábel Farkas resigned three weeks after starting a constitutional crisis. Parliamentary elections were held afterwards as decreed by Farkas, resulting in the victory of the opposition Labour Party under leadership of Viktor Kassai, propelling him into the position of Prime Minister and interim president. The legislature functioned as a de facto constitutional assembly, with the Labour Party and its allies having the seven-tenths majority in order to amend the constitution and calling a constitutional referendum.

The trials of Ábel Farkas and his predecessor Tibor Kásler were held between 15 and 20 January 2001, with Farkas being sentenced to a sentence of ten years for corruption and embezzlement while Tibor Kásler was acquittal after being diagnosed with cancer.

Post-2000
Brilliania started the transition to its third constitution in 2002, after the approval of the new Constitution of the Republic by means of a constitutional referendum. The Third Constitution introduced points which were widespread in other nations but not yet implemented in Brilliania, including the right to divorce and the decriminalization of homosexual activities, while also abandoning its policy of relative neutrality in favour of increased international co-operation with states in Asura. Another major instrument of reform was the Charter of the Republic, which introduced provisions for autonomisation of the state and ended the unitary state model in Brilliania in favour of federal state. A third charter, the Economic Instrument of Reform, resulted in the revitalisation of the Brillian economy by ending the dirigisme. With the removal of governmental control of the economy, the economy initially suffered from severe recessions which were mostly corrected by economic shock therapy.
The 2002 legislative election, held to elect a 188-member parliament (increased from 150), was a realigning election with Viktor Kassai's Towards Victory party recieving an absolute majority with 108 of 188 seats, while the incumbent Our Home is Brilliania party recieved 30. Kassai implemented popular measures and became a widely respected figure in Brillian politics, forming three governing coalitions in a row until his leave from politics in 2010. András Kassai was elected President in 2013, but lost re-election in 2019.
Between 2019 and 2020, Brilliania was embroiled in a political conflict after the failure of negotiations after six months of formation talks.

Geography
Geography
Brilliania is a relatively low-lying country, with parts of the northern coast being below sea level. The southern parts are hillier, including the capital city of Saranegertu. The average national elevation is around 30 metres. The highest point of Brilliania is the 560-metre high Saran Peak, which is close to Saranegertu. The Saran Peak is easily climbable and is a popular spot for tourists. Saranegertu itself is one of the highest-elevated cities in Brilliania, being around 350 metres high.

Politics and Government
The Republic of Brilliania is administered as a presidential republic governed by the laws defined in the Fourth Constitution of the Republic, which was signed in 2005. The parliament of Brilliania is the unicameral Legebiltzarrak. The highest role in Brillian politics is the Lehendakari, which is elected directly by the people using the two-round method. The current Lehendakari is Haran Elexalde, representing the Democrats of Brilliania.

National Assembly
The National Assembly is the unicameral system legislature, which is responsible for the creation of laws, formation of a government, and regular co-operation with high figures such as ministers and the President. Its 188 members elected on basis of proportional representation using the Webster/Sainte-Laguë method for three-year terms. Brilliania has a multi-party system. The sole time in a fully democratic election in which a party recieved an absolute majority occurred in 2002, when Vitkro Kassai's Labour Party won 108 of 188 seats.

The Lehendakari may not be a member of the Legebiltzarrak, but must be appointed via an internal party election. They have a large amount of influence in the Legebiltzarrak, including the ability to submit law proposals. However, they are not allowed to vote in the Legebiltzarrak.

Political parties
All 270 members of the Legebiltzarrak are elected by the Brillian populace using national party-list proportional representation using the Sainte-Laguë method. The Legebiltzarrak meets in the former royal palace in Martiriren Herria.

Parties
Brilliania has multiple political party who compete against eachother in elections on the national, provincial and municipal level. In order to facilitate the creation of a government, inter-party co-operation is required, which must reflect the composition of the Brillian population by including at least one party of each major religious group. Therefore, multiple parties with similar bases and different religions often compete against eachother on the legislative level. In recent years inter-religious co-operation has made the traditional party system more volatile, with Marist parties often allying with their Alydian counterparts on the regional and nationallevel, reflecting an increased tendency towards secularism and progressive social attitudes in younger generations causing an end to the traditional societal pillarisation.
Since the fall of communism, Brilliania has a multi-party system. The most recent legislative election will occur on 10 May 2019.
International observers consider Brilliania to have a two-party system, with the Elkarrekin Movement and the Democrats of Brilliania holding nearly 90% of the legislature in 2015.

The Elkarrekin Movement is a successor to the Social Democratic Movement, which was the heir of the Communist Party of Brilliania. However, Elkarrekin is considered more moderate than the Social Democratic Movement. It supports stronger anti-discrimination laws, legalization of same-sex marriages, secularism, and improved coöperation with the CDN. It is associated with the colour amaranth.
As of the 2020 Brillian legislative election, the governing coalition on the federal level consists of a minority government of the centre-right Mostantól and the centrist Pirate Party, relying on confidence and supply from the left-wing Together We Can (Brilliania)Együtt.

The Democrats of Brilliania is a conservative party, heir of the Brillian Forum for Democracy. They are the largest right-wing party in Brilliania. Its policies include tax breaks for families with 4 or more children, strong adherance to traditional Alydian values, simplification of tax laws, higher Ertzaintza presence in larger towns and scepticism towards the CDN. Its official party colour is light blue.
Administrative divisions
Law and judicial system
As a federal state, the Brillian state consists of several provinces (megye), which enjoy a degree of autonomy. Each state is entitled to the creation its own provincial laws which are codified by regional parliaments. The provinces are further divided into districts (kerület), of which there are 196. The provinces are responsible for most services, including housing, taxation, education, social services and healthcare.
The judicial system in Brilliania is based off civil law. There are three kinds of courts: district courts, regional high courts and the Supreme Court (Kuria). The Kuria is based in Saranegertu.
Each province is represented on the federal level by a Presidential Commissioner, which is either elected by the members of the provincial legislature or in a direct election.
Law enforcement in Brilliania is operated by the Ertzaintza, which carries out all major police duties such as investigation, patrol activity, traffic policing and border control. The Ertzaintza is highly trained and is led by the National Commissioner of Law Enforcement, supervized by the Interior Minister. It is divided into regional and city divisions. The elite force of the Ertzaintza, the semi-militarized Jendarme, is used for riot control and critical incidents. ====Music====
Brilliania has had several musical developments in its history. A very common type of Brillian music is the "Bizitza kantua" (Life song). These life songs often are about subjects of lost ones or loneliness. They have a simple melody and a straightforward musical structure. A common element in life songs are accordions and guitars. Despite the cultural liberalization since Brillian independence, they are still very popular.
Brillian independence in the 80's caused cultural liberalization which is also marked in Brillian music. Music moved in a more positive way, shifting away from tradition and moving into internationalized territory with songs by bands such as Doe Maar becoming huge hits in Brilliania. The shift to internationalized music has continued in recent years, coinciding with the general liberalization of Brillian society.
Other foreign music styles such as jazz are also popular. The jazz singer Salvador Sobral gained international praise in 2016 after winning the Aeiavision Song Contest with his self-penned song "Maitasuna Bai". Rock and metal are also popular international music genres in Brilliania, although artists making music in these genres have recieved severe opposition from religious organizations for promoting atheism.

Cuisine
Cuisine is a big part of the Brillian culture, with cooking being regarded as a communal event especially at special occasions. Brillian cuisine is influenced by both neighbouring cultures and geographical influences. In the Kostaldea province fish dishes are widespread, while in the south meat is preferred. Iparinan cuisine is influenced by Brillian culture and vice-versa. An example of Iparinan-Brillian cuisine is Erreta, which is a beef stew with simple ingredients, mostly consisting of beef, paprika and onions which is stewed in a large pot over a fire. The import of paprika's via Veleazan new-world colonies have added a big element to Iparinan cuisine.
A common occurrence in Brilliania are the so-called txoko, which are closed gastronomical societies for men. Txokos doubled as speakeasies during ASU rule - the communist government in Brilliania did not monitor txokos. Most txokos have their own constitutions featuring rules the members must agree to. Txokos are very common institutions: The city of Saranegertu, with more than 2 million citizens, has over 1,500 txokos with over 200,000 members in total. Most txokos are very conservative - traditional clothing is required and women are banned from entering because cooking is often regarded as a male activity in Brilliania. In recent years the so-called txoko sozialak, or social txoko, have been started in most major cities. Social txokos allow women, and have liberal dress codes. Txokos are also a common place for political debates.

Brilliania, officially known as the Federal Republic of Brilliania (Brillian: Berílet Szövetségi Köztársaság), is a landlocked sovereign state located in northeast Asura, bordered by Elhazia in the northwest, Krovech in the northeast, Chokashia in the southeast and Lachnow in the south. As of the 2015 census, Brilliania is inhabited by around 24 million citizens. The sole official language in Brilliania is Brillian, which with around 21 million speakers is one of the most spoken Kalic languages in the world, and one of the largest non-Cataisuran languages spoken in Asura. The largest city in Brilliania is Szentmári, with its capital being the planned city of Szaraneközel; with other major cities including Endrőd, Angyalok and Szentmári.

The predecessor to the modern-day Brillian state was established in the 13th century by the Grand Diet of King Miklós III, swiftly conquering multiple pagan petty kingdoms. Tensions between Marists and Alydianists resurfaced in 1888 resulting in a civil war and a disjointed response to the Great War, with both sides supporting the Concordat due to international pressure.

Brilliania is a developed middle power with a high-income service economy and a high standard of living. Administratively, it is divided into 7 provinces including the capital city of Szaraneközel. Its historical and cultural heritage give it an international presence in art, music, literature, science and technology. It has been a member of the CDN since 1955, along with membership in organisations such as the APHO, AEA and the WECO.

Political and economic weakness were fertile grounds for socio-political conflict, combined with major influence and pressure from religious blocks within the government of the Second Brillian Republic. The Brillian response to the Great War, despite it being limited and dependent on seperate responses, caused major harm to the economy. On June 13 1910,

Neverfading Revolution and the Contract of Szaraneközel

The government resisted any form of internationalisation and developed Brilliania into an isolated state, until June 1955 when the bloodless Neverfading Revolution (also known as the Amaranth Revolution) resulted in the restoration of democracy culminating with the passing of the Instrument of Democratic Renewal by dissident members of the National Order in the National Assembly. Prior to the GyFP being ended in 1959, Brilliania was ruled by a technocratic government, including the period after the convention and election of the Constitutional Assembly. However, it did not get the support of nearly all Alydian clergy and became a pariah in the National Assembly by being put under a cordon sanitaire.

Millenium Revolution

Ábel Farkas in 2001 prior to his trial.

Protests in Szaraneközel in March 2000.

The trials of Ábel Farkas and his predecessor Tibor Kásler were held between 15 and 20 January 2001, with Farkas being sentenced to a sentence of ten years for corruption and embezzlement while Tibor Kásler was acquitted after being diagnosed with cancer.

Another major instrument of reform was the Charter of the Republic, which introduced provisions for autonomisation of the state and ended the unitary state model in Brilliania in favour of federalism. A third charter, the Economic Instrument of Reform, resulted in the revitalisation of the Brillian economy by ending the dirigist economic policy.

Politics and Government

The Federation Building in Szaraneközel, opened in 2006, houses the National Assembly and its committees.

The Republic of Brilliania is administered as a federal semi-presidential republic governed by the framework laws defined in the Third Constitution of the Republic supplemented with the Book of Administrative Law. Amendments to either the Constitution or the Book of Administrative Law must be approved by 70% of lawmakers and by a majority of the Brillian populace in an amendemental referendum.

Politics

National Assembly

The National Assembly is the unicameral legislature, which is responsible for the creation of laws, formation of a government, and regular co-operation with high figures such as ministers and the President. Its 188 members elected on basis of proportional representation using the Sainte-Laguë method for three-year terms. Brilliania has a multi-party system. The sole time in a fully democratic election in which a party recieved an absolute majority occurred in 2002, when Vitkro Kassai's Labour Party won 108 of 188 seats.

Brilliania has multiple political parties who compete against eachother in elections on the national, provincial and municipal level.

As of the 2020 Brillian legislative election, the governing coalition on the federal level consists of a minority government of the centre-right Mostantól and the centrist Pirate Party, relying on confidence and supply from the left-wing Together We Can (Brilliania)Együtt.

Administrative divisions

As a federal state, the Brillian state consists of several provinces (megye), which enjoy a degree of autonomy. Each state is entitled to the creation its own provincial laws which are codified by regional parliaments. The provinces are further divided into districts (kerület), of which there are 196. The provinces are responsible for most services, including housing, taxation, education, social services and healthcare. Each province is represented on the federal level by a Presidential Commissioner, which is either elected by the members of the provincial legislature or in a direct election.

Law and judicial system

The judicial system in Brilliania is based off civil law divided between the supreme authority of the Kuria, combined with district and provincial courts. The Kuria is based in Szaranegertu.
Law enforcement in Brilliania is operated by the Rendőrség, which carries out all major police duties such as investigation, patrol activity, traffic policing and border control. The Rendőrség is subordinate to the Ministry of Domestic Security. The elite force of the Rendőrség, the semi-militarized Gendarmerie, is used for riot control and critical incidents including terrorism and hostage situations.

Foreign relations

Brillian foreign relations and diplomacy have been marked by a form of neutrality. After the Neverfading Revolution, Brilliania swiftly joined international organisations such as the Commonwealth of Democratic Nations. After the Millenium Revolution, Brilliania proceeded to hold a more internationalist foreign stance and enhance its international standing. The Brillian economy is in part dependent on international trade, and its foreign policy is marked by the core tenet of inter-Asuran co-operation.
