Kavalerilant is a Diarchic Absolute Monarchy. The absolute authority of the two Princesses (Roza Söl and Evelan Möt since 2008) has been affirmed many times throughout Kavaler history, most recently in a royal decree in 2009. No institution is over the Princesses, the Princesses are also legally immune. No form of political party or democratic election have ever been allowed in Kavalerilant. Critics regard this as a totalitarian dictatorship, however the Aeian Freedom Index gave Kavalerilant a freedom rating of moderately free (9) in 2004, which has stayed stagnate since then.
