Navack (Newreyan pronunciation /ˈnævæk/; Navish Navak pronounced /nɑ:vɑk/), officially the United Republic of Navack is a sovereign state whose territory comprises the central portion of the Lhedwinic archipelago plus the remote archipelago of Sturhlund. Navack has a total area of 115.252.000 square kilometres and a population of 15.705.768 (as of January 2016). The country shares border to the north with Andmark and Torland, Crylante to the south, and the Lhedwinic strait to the east, with Newrey on the other side. The Navish population is mostly located on the southern most part of the country, where some of the most important cities in Navack can be found. The capital and biggest city is Berke. Other important urban areas are Brestrand, Hudenholm, Høulding and Voyens.

North Asuran peoples have inhabited Navack since prehistoric times, emerging into history as the Mænish Tribes (Senterstammer), the Sodish Tribes (Sødstammer), the Fiskish Tribes (Fiskstammer), and the Andish. Central-eastern Navack is predominantly agricultural, while the north is heavily forested. Today, Navack is a federative presidential republic, with a president, elected every four years, as head of state and government, like its Lhedwinic neighbors. Legislative power is vested in the 213-member bicameral congress. Executive power is exercised by the government chaired by the president, recently elected Helle Schanke. Navack is a federative state, currently divided into 12 states, 180 municipalities, and the oversea territories of Sturhlund.

The Navish state was poperly unified in 847 CE, following the Trinity War. The unification was followed by the crowning of the Berkish King Olaf I, whom became known as the Unifier. On the late 10th century, Navack had developed enough sailing technology to allow more effective raids over mainland Asura. Throughout the 11th century, the raids caused several conflicts of the Navish crown against many smaller kingdoms in modern day Newrey, Cuirpthe, Tricaldia and Wradhia. By the end of the 16th century, Navack had succesfully annexated Rigjord to its domain. In 1624, Navack entered in a personal alliance with the Republic of Nausikaa, forming the Navo-Nausikaan Commonweatlh. Shortly after that, Andmark was politically drawn into the alliance, thus leading to the official creation of the United Kingdom of Lhedwin. The Grand Duchy of Lilledel followed the Andmarkish steps, while Torland was annexated after the 1750 Torlandic War. Navack became an independent nation in 1900 after the Millennial Peace. However, the recently re-established monarchy was soon deployed by the Republican Revolution of 1921.

The country maintains a combination of market economy and a Lhedwinic welfare model with universal health care and a comprehensive social security system. Navack has extensive reserves of petroleum, natural gas, minerals, lumber, seafood, fresh water, and hydropower. The petroleum industry accounts for around a quarter of the country's gross domestic product (GDP). On a per-capita basis, Navack is one the world's largest producer of oil and natural gas.

Navack is a full-member of the Commonwealth of Democratic Nations (which includes membership on both Aeian Community and Drago Entente), the Lhedwinic Council, the Aeian Environment Agency, the Aeian Public Health Organization, and the World Educational and Cultural Organization (WECO). It has the world's third-highest per capita income and ranks highly in numerous metrics of national performance, including quality of life, health, education, protection of civil liberties, economic competitiveness, equality, prosperity and human development.

History

Pre-Unification Period

A Sødish rune stone found by archeologists near the Krystalldam Lake, a few kilometers of Thise. The stone is dated from around 1200 BCE.

Historians estimate that proto-Lhediwinic people first occupied current Navish territory around the 10th century BCE. The oldest human found, however, was located a few miles north of Brautarholt, buried at the bottom of the Andish Mountain range in the state of Andiland, dating back to the 17th BCE. It is estimated by historians that by 90 CE, there were approximately 35,000 people who lived in Navack, divided over more than 20 smaller tribes.

Despite the elevated number of early tribes, the central-Lhedwinic tribes started to concentrate themselves into bigger communities, giving birth to what is known nowadays as the central-Lhedwinic conglomerates: the Mænish Tribes (Senterstammer), the Sodish Tribes (Sødstammer), the Fiskish Tribes (Fiskstammer), and the Andish. Each group of tribes had their own culture and way of living. The Mænish Tribes lived between the Lilla river and the Hvit river, stretching their domain all the way to what is today the Navish border with Andmark and Torland. The Sodish Tribes occupied all the area south of the Lilla river and the central plains. The Fiskish Tribes occupied all northern Navack, stretching all the way from the border with Andiland to the border with Andmark. The Andish occupation of the peninsula dates all the way back to the 17th BCE, and since then, the Andish people had lived in isolation, surrounded by natural barriers.

Historians believe that each conglomerate had its own dominant tribe. The Bærkish people dominated the southern tribes, as they had full control over both Rød and Blatt rivers, an important passage from the extreme south to the rest of the territory. The Ossians controlled the entrance of the Lille river, giving them all the control over the transport across the Lilla and all the way to the Trelv and Mindre rivers, near Navack's northern border. On the other hand, the Sandish had control over the north due to the good location; as the north gets extremely cold for the extreme northern tribes, they were not able to develop as fast as the Sandish, who became known for their quality ships and fishing activities.

Trinity War and Unification

During the mid 9th century, the three main Navish tribes established themselves as unified kingdoms, keeping the nearby tribes as vassals. At first, tension was little, but as time went by, conflict started to commenc along the borders without natural marks. The Sandish Kingdom and the Ossian Kingdom were the first to fight over land. Soon after, the Berkish Kindgom started to expand north of the Lilla river. By 835, all three kingdoms were constantly fighting among themselves.

Historians still do not have a precise date for the beginning of the Trinity War, as the kingdoms were in a constant state of war. However, it is of common accordance among historians that in 845, both Berkish and Sandish Kings came into accordance about their borders, marked by the Trelv river. Such accordance led to the foramtion of a political and military alliance that served to counter Ossian troops. The war ended when the Ossian King, Harold II, died in battle during the Siege of Brestrand.

After the war, all three kingdoms agreed in unite their forces and settle the territory fights. In May 19th, 847, the United Kingdom of Navack was formed and a new council of Jarls was formed. The first capital as supposed to be Brestrand, in Ossand, but due to a local social-economic issues caused by the war, the new nation capital was moved to Kalgnat, the second biggest city at the time.

Geography

The Navish territory is in northern Asura and it can be found in two different imaginary regions: under and above the Artic line. The country occupies the central portion of the Lhedwinic archipelago, sharing land borders with Crylante to the south, Andmark and Torland to the north. The country also owns the oceanic archipelago of Sturhlund. The geography of Navack is diverse, ranging from high mountains to flatlands.

The country is the largest nation in Lhedwin, with a total area of 215.234 km², including the archipelago of Sturhlund. Navack comprises two different time zones: from UTC-1 in Sturhlund to UTC 0 (Lhedwinic central time) in the mainland.

The Navish topography is diverse, ranging from high peaks to low flatlands. The territory is fairly divided between the higher and the lower parts. For instance, all the extension of land from the south of the Lilla river is flatland. The north portion of the country is where almost all the mountain ranges can be found, such as the Andifjeldene in Andiland, Sørfjeldene along the border with Andmark and Torland, and the Gutenheimen in Sandhalsen. The Krylanfjeld is the only mountain range found bellow the Lilla river, which stands along the border with Crylante. The tallest peak in Navack is the Kongespiggen, with 2.469 meters.

Navack has a dense river system, most of them originating from the Gutenheimen mountain rage. The land is mostly made of hard granite and gneiss rock, but slate, sandstone, and limestone are also common, and the lowest elevations contain marine deposits. Because of the North Rennekan Stream and prevailing westerlies, Navack experiences higher temperatures and more precipitation than expected at such southern and eastern locations, especially along the Lhedwin Channel coast. The mainland experiences four distinct seasons, with colder winters and less precipitation inland. The northernmost part has a mostly maritime Subarctic climate, while Sturhlund and Ostry have an Arctic tundra climate.

  Crylantian (14%)
  Andish (7%)
  Other Asurans (4%)

The population of Navack, according to the 2016 census made by the Navish Institute of Geography and Statistics (NIGS), was of 15.705.768 habitants (18,8 per square kilometer), with a proportion between men and women as 0,86:1 and over 75% of the population living in the cities. The population is strongly located in the central states (9,6 million), followed by the southern states (2,5 million), and the northern states (2,1 million). However, even though the region is the least populous, the largest states in terms of area are the ones in the northern region.

The Navish population had a significative growth between 1970 and 1990, as the boom in the economy caused by the oil industry made possible the investment in social politics and increase of quality of life. However, the populational pyramid of the nation has start to turn, as couples are less likely to have a child. Nowadays, couples have 0,89% of chance of having their first child, as during the ‘50s, couples had over 1% of having their first two children and around 0,92% on having the third. The life expectancy has also grown exponentially since the late 1970s; in 1978, the life expectancy was of 54 years old, as of today it has grown to over 80 years.

The biggest urban agglomerates of Navack, according to the estimative made by NIGS as of 2016, are the metropolitan regions of Berke (3,144,725), Hudenholm (2,974,051), Voyens (1,705,124), Høulding (848,651), and Brestrand (839,222). All the capitals are the biggest cities of each state, with the least populated being the city of Velbri (4.172), capital of Sturhlund.

Navish enjoy both the third-highest GDP per-capita among Asuran countries (after Crylante and Andmark), and in the world. The standard of living in Navack is among the highest in Aeia. Navack is constantly ranked as one of the wealthiest and best countries to live in Aeia. Navack is a member of the Commonwealth of Democratic Nation, thus member of the asuran free-trade zone, making it possible to easily export Navish goods such as timber, automobiles, general services, and especially oil and natural gas. Such condition made it possible for Navack to establish itself as an economic powerhouse in northern Asura. The Navish currency is the Navish Skillingr, which is pegged at approximately 0.85ʂ to one USD, being the most valuable currency in Lhedwin and one of the most in all Asura.

The Navish economy is an example of a successful Lhedwinic Welfare System. Navack is a mixed economy; it is a prosperous capitalist welfare state and social democracy country featuring a combination of free market activity and large state ownership in certain key sectors. Public health care in Navack is free, and parents have 52 weeks paid parental leave. Navack has an unemployment rate of 3.6%, with 72% of the population aged 15–74 employed. People in the labor force are either employed or looking for work. 9.5% of the population aged 18–66 receive a disability pension and 32% of the labor force are employed by the government. The hourly productivity levels, as well as average hourly wages in Navack, are among the highest in the world. The egalitarian values of Navish society have kept the wage difference between the lowest paid worker and the CEO of most companies as much less than in comparable Aeian economies. This is also evident in Navack's low Gini coefficient.

Oil production has been an important sector of the Navish economy since the 1970s

The Navish economy is characterized by its large oil and natural gas sector, as well as its renowned automobile and naval industry. The country is richly endowed with natural resources including petroleum, hydropower, fish, forests, and minerals. Large reserves of petroleum and natural gas were discovered in the 1970s—specially around the archipelago of Sturhlund area, which led to a boom in the economy. Navack has obtained one of the highest standards of living in the world in part by having a large amount of natural resources compared to the size of the population. In 2015, 29% of state revenues were generated from the petroleum industry. In 2015, the 10 biggest Navish companies were Petrønav (oil production), Navair (airline company), Givenchi (automobile company), Inbasel (bank), Navannkraft (energy), Nordslåd Komp. (steel production), Konet (Telecommunication), Luksus (ship production), Blatt Airlines, and Melby Couture (clothing brand). The Navish state shares a large ownership position in some key sectors such as oil production, steel production, energy production, and telecommunication. Through these big companies, the government controls approximately 28% of the stock values at the Brestrand Stock Exchange. When non-listed companies are included, the state has even higher share in ownership (mainly from direct oil license ownership). Navack is a major shipping nation and has the world's 4th largest merchant fleet, with 1,346 Navish-owned merchant vessels.

Tourism

Tourism is a crescent sector in the Navish economy. Navack is one of the most famous destinations in both northern Asura and Lhedwin, receiving millions of tourists every year. Tourism in Navack contributed to 5.4% of the gross domestic product as reported in 2016. Every one in fifteen people throughout the country work in the tourism industry. Tourism is seasonal in Navack, with more than half of total tourists visiting between the months of May and August. In 2015, 8,828,771 foreign tourists visited Navack, a 8.3% increase over the previous year's figure of 8,154,436.

The main attractions of Navack are the varied landscapes that extend across the Arctic Circle. It is famous for its bird-indented coastline and its mountains, ski resorts, lakes and woods. Popular tourist destinations in Navack include Berke, Brestrand, Harhalsen, Hudenholm, Elborg and Helsingfors. Much of the nature of Navack remains unspoiled, and thus attracts numerous hikers and skiers. The fjords, mountains and waterfalls in Western and Northern Navack attract several hundred thousand foreign tourists each year. In the cities, cultural idiosyncrasies such as the Holmenkollen ski jump attract many visitors, as well as science abilities and cultural learnings and things such as Almånbryggen in Harhalsen and the Vigeland Sculpture Park in Berke.

The culture of Navack evolved as a result of its sparse population, harsh climate, and relative isolation from the rest of Asura. It is therefore distinct from other countries in Asura in that it has fewer opulent palaces and castles, smaller agricultural areas, and longer travel distances. Regionally distinct architecture, crafts, and art are presented in the various folk museums, typically based on an ethnological perspective. Navask Folkemuseum at Blåttøya in Berke is the largest of these.
