The Aeian Parliament is the supreme legislative body of the Aeian Community, the domestic body of the Commonwealth of Democratic Nations. The Parliament is made up of the Aeian Assembly and Aeian Council. The Assembly contains members elected from each member state within the community, whilst the Council contains the heads of state of each member of the Community. All legislation passed by the Parliament is required to pass through both houses to be enacted.

Aeian Council

The Aeian Council is the upper house of the Aeian Parliament. The purpose of the Council is to represent the national governments of each member state in the Aeian Parliament. The Council is comprised of the head of government or their appointed representative from each member state and the one observer. By convention the Council does not introduce legislation, however there is no rule that says it cannot.

The Aeian Council debates and votes on all legislation passed by the Aeian Assembly. The Council also has the unique power of voting in new members to the Aeian Community. The Aeian Council not as active as the Assembly and other parts of the Aeian Community and meets on an as needed basis.

The Council is presided over by a President. The presidency of the Council is rotated among the members yearly. The current president is the Chancellor of Cuirpthe, Aidan Henderson.

Aeian Assembly

The Aeian Assembly is the lower house of the Aeian Parliament. The Assembly represents the people of the Commonwealth as each nation sends a number of popularly elected delegates to the body. Delegates to the Aeian Parliament, commonly known as DAPs, vote based on their constituency and party needs and are not beholden to their national governments.

The Assemly is presided over by an elected Speaker. The current Speaker is Carles Zeoffajen from Sarpory and Vemnia.

Elections

Elections for seats within the Assembly take place every two-years and are handled entirely by on a national level. Each member state may select an individual proportional system to elect members to the Assembly. Each member state may also draw their own electoral boundaries, provided they are in compliance with the Treaty of Berghelling's ruling on national elections for the Assembly. Each member state receives a base six seats, with additional seats based on their population, with one extra seat for every 819,000 people of part thereof.

Political Groups

Although members of the Asuran Parliament represent their respective national parties at a local level, the vast majority of national parties also subscribe to a particular political bloc within the parliament.
