Bevenia (Bevene: [bɨˈfɛɲə], Florian: [beˈvẽniɐ]), officially the Free Republic of Bevenia (Bevene: [ɾepɨˈblikə ˈlabrɨ 'dɐ̃ bɨˈfɛɲə], Florian: [ʁeˈpublikɐ ˈlivɾɪ ˈda beˈvẽniɐ]) is a country located in western Asura. Bevenia is the second westernmost sovereign state of mainland Asura, after Vvarden. It is bordered to the west by the Opal Ocean, to the north by Vvarden, and to the east and south by Sarpory and Vemnia. Bevenia is relatively small, comprising an area of 35,693 square kilometers with a population of 6,327,126, as of 2016 census. The biggest city of Bevenia is the capital Lagaú, located in the southern region of the country, by Lake Richard.
Bevenia is a relatively young nation in Asura, but fights over the Bevenian territory goes centuries back in history. Historically, the territory has been firstly occupied by Sarporians, Vemnians and Vvardeni. Fiorentine conquest came later, followed by Thiaric invasions from modern day Cuirpthe.
Bevenia as is relatively new, having earned its independence from Sarpory and Vemnia in December of 1998. Bevenia was initially inhabited by Sarporian people in the coastline and southern region, having Vemnians occupying the northern lakes’ region, and Vvardenis taking most of Bevenia’s middle territory. Northern Bevenia eventually became part of the Vvardeni Union, whereas the southern region was absorbed by Sarpory and Vemnia, under the name of Bescozebenia. Floriana, as was Vvardeni Bevenia known at the time, was given to Sarpory and Vemnia during the Pontiff Union times. The growing cultural differences between Bescozebes and Sarporians inflicted constant conflicts between the Commune of Bescozebenia and Sarpory and Vemnia. The outcome of it was the Communes’s partial independence in 1998, changing its name to Bevenia to differentiate itself from the remaining Sarporian commune of Bescozebenia.
Bevenia is culturally diverse, being divided into two main regions: the Florian Country, with a majority of Florian speakers, and the Bescozebe Country, with a majority of Bevene speakers. The Florian Country keeps its Fiorentine roots strongly, whereas the Bescozebe Country is known for its unique mix of Fiorentine culture with Sarporian costumes.
