The Srednian Civil War was an ethnically-based conflict fought from 1998 to 2001 in the former Socialist Republic of Srednia. The war was fought during the breakup of Srednia, by Elhazian and Uwhistan separatists against unionists led by Sagalash, which was also supported by the communist parties in all three states.

One of the main causes of war was the decision of the Srednian Government in 1997 to reduce the powers of individual member states and centralize power. Although the ruling communist parties of Uwhistan and Elhazia accepted that decision, it caused great dissatisfaction among the Elhazian people. Following the decision, several months of mass protests took place in Domanov and the rest of Elhazia, also known as the Byrel protests (Elhazian:Birelski prosvjedi). These protests resulted in the resignation of the communist government in the Elhazian federal district and the organization of multi-party elections in February 1998 that the central government in Svetograda did not recognize as legitimate. The new Elhazian government, led by a coalition of several nationalist and separatist parties, declared independence a month later and promised to build a wall at the Sagalashian border. This angered Sagalash, but also caused the dissatisfaction of the Parenski people as the planned wall would pass through the middle of the territory they lived in. The Parenski are a stateless ethnic group residing in the border area between Sagalash, Uwhistan and Elhazia.

The Uwhistani communist government supported the territorial integrity of Srednia and opposed the Elhazian secession in the first few months of the conflict, although this changed after the (Sagalashian massacre of Elhazians - TBA) that took place in November 1998, seeing Uwhistan siding with Elhazia.

The neighbouring Socialist Republic of Dreyvisevich quickly denounced the Elhazian seperatists and in co-operation with the Srednian government and Sagalash, sent an Expeditionary Peacekeeping Force consisting of 3 Infantry Corps and gave the support of the Dreyvisevite Air Force against the seperatists.
