The May Uprising (Quốc Thoại: Khởi-nghĩa tháng Năm), also known as the May General Uprising For National Independence (Tổng khởi-nghĩa giành độc-lập tháng Năm), was an uprising launched by the Công Quốc Đồng Minh Hội (Cong Quoc United Revolutionary League) against the Great Danh Empire and the Zoygarian Empire in mid 1953. The Công Quốc Đồng Minh Hội, led by the Danh People's Party, was created in 1941 and designed to appeal to a wider population than the communists could command.
Within two weeks, forces under the CQDMH had seized control of most rural villages and cities throughout Northern and Central Cong Quoc, including the capital Thang Phuong, Ha Son, and Bac Cang. The May Uprising sought to create a unified regime for the entire country under CQDMH's rule. Despite the League being a popular fighting force, many other groups that opposed the League rulings and ideologies still occupied other smaller areas. The leader of the League, Ha Chi Khoi, declared the independence of the People's Republic of Cong Quoc on 1 June 1953.
