The Central Adula Mutual Defense Agreement, commonly referred to as CAMDA, is an intergovernmental military alliance between 5 Central Adulan nations. CAMDA constitutes a system of collective defence whereby its independent member states agree to mutual defence in response to an attack by any external party. CAMDA's Headquarters are located in Durnen, Durnstaal, with other headquartered offices located in Ieraskevi (Alcarres), Athenos (Alonnisosa), and Courbagne (New Elkland). The alliance was formed at the conclusion of the Jiddiyan Civil War as a response to the rapidly escalating regional influence of Emmiria. Though Emmiria was not widely percieved as a threat, its size and military power was considered to be a factor of concern in the event of a possible second conflict erupting in the region.
History
The end of the Jiddiyan Civil War in 1991 led to a dramatic rise in the military influence of Emmiria over Central and Eastern Adula. While no aggression from the nation was expected, the possible eruption of a second, larger conflict in the region lead to a desire for a military power which could match that of Emmiria. The first talks of a military-economic agreement, then known as the Central Adula Alliance, began in April of 1992 in Sparnata, Alonnisosa but struggled to make headway. These talks stalled and ended on August 29th, 1992 and lead to several further failed attempts at smaller agreements of a similar nature between the present nations. These failures lead to talks resuming in February 1993 with far more success.
The majority of the problems which stymied the first talks were solved when the Central Adula Alliance was split into two separate organizations: the Central Adula Mutual Defense Agreement and the Central Adula Trade Agreement. The talks regarding the military agreement concluded on July 7th, 1993 with the signing of the Central Adulan Defense Treaty in Courbagne, New Elkland which officially formed the Central Adula Mutual Defense Agreement.
Despite the original intention of the C.A.M.D.A. to be a counter to the Emmirian military, the Alliance continues to hold significant and calm relations with their neighboring country. Emmiria, alongside nations in W.E.D.A. such as Zamastan and Albarine, also hold good relations with the alliance. In 1999, the military of New Elkland reached agreements with Emmiria and Zamastan to share weapons technology, which bolstered productivity in the CAMDA nations and a diversified array of equipment. In 2007, Durnstaal and Alcarres led an initiative to create shared and nationalized equipment, subsidizing weapons manufacturers for the prospect of building up the Alliance's arsenal.
The organization's first major diplomatic action occurred during the 2020 Tarijar Strait Crisis when all member countries closed their embassies with Drambenburg in protest of Drambenburgian actions in the Albarine Sea. This move highlighted the ineffective nature of the organization's official diplomatic policy, having isolated the nations from diplomatic channels rather than utilizing them. Following this, the organization began a complete rewrite of the standard procedures for dealing with diplomatic crises in order to better protect member interests in future diplomatic situations.
