Lionel Pieters is a New Elklandian politician serving as the President of New Elkland since 2018. He is a member of the Keriga Progressive Coalition and is a leading figure within the Central Adulan nations, especially within CAMDA where he is a proponent for stronger military defense and in TAFCA where he promotes widened free trade agreements. He became President in 2018 following Peter Mikanra's resignation. His first term was heavily marked by the Elkland financial crisis and Pieters has overseen a major restructuring of the Elkland financial system as well as a major labour reform. He was reelected, along with his party, in 2022. After Alcarres and Alonnisosa were granted membership with WEDA, Pieters initially pressed the parliament to consider a referendum to join, but later pulled back those pursuits due to WEDA member states' restrictive policies on refugee acceptance.
