Vessalia is the capital city of Avergnon, and along with being the largest city in the country and its economic, cultural, and political hub, it is also one of the largest cities in the World. Since the 17th century, Vessalia has been one of Euronia's major centers of finance, diplomacy, commerce, fashion, science and arts. It was heavily damaged and impacted by the World War (1949-54), but reconstruction with the help of the former-Allied Powers helped restore much of the city's most pristine architecture. The City of Vessalia is the center and seat of government of the Vessalia Region, which has an estimated official 2020 population of 8,850,000, or about 18 percent of the population of Avergnon. The Vessalia Region had a GDP of A€709 billion (Z$808 billion) in 2017. Vessalia was the fourth most expensive city in the world, after Tofino, Cardiff, and San Beausoleil.

The city is a major railway, highway and air-transport hub served by two international airports: Lewis Pontegnone International Airport (the third busiest airport in Euronia) and Vessalia-Pageaux International Airport. Opened in 1900, the city's subway system, the Vessalia Métro, serves 5.23 million passengers daily; it is the second busiest metro system in Euronia after the Tofino Metro. Vessalia is especially known for its museums and architectural landmarks. Vessalia received 38 million visitors in 2019, measured by hotel stays, with the largest numbers of foreign visitors coming from Zamastan, Cadair, Vulkaria, and Caspia.
