The Republic of Allieu is a nation in northwest Euronia bordered by Noravia to the southeast, Thetlia to the northeast, Baytonia to the west, with a coast along the Kasuum Sea to the south and the Northern Ocean to the north. Its capital is Sens and its largest city is Porte-Lyon, with other notable cities including Provinne, Etienne, Aubesurre, Saone, and Lanaine. Allieu has a population of 23.6 million. Its official language is Noravian, with English and Sent the other two recognized national languages, though dozens of indigenous languages are also spoken. Allieu is geographically diverse, featuring plains, forests, mountains, lakes, rivers, and rocky coastlines.

Allieu has been inhabited for thousands of years, with multiple kingdoms and empires having settled the region. Caspiaan and Baytonian settlers established encampments throughout the interior in the 1000s, before the Gladysynthian empire annexed much of the country's territory in the 1500s. Porte-Lyon and Etienne were established as Elbresian trading posts in the 1600s and stood autonomous from the Gladysynthian territories. Allieu became a largely autonomous colony of Elbresia in 1898, and became fully independent following the World War in 1954. It adopted a constitution and became a democratic republic in 1961. The current Prime Minister is Kate Holborow, who has been in office since 2019. Noravia is a member of the Coalition of Crown Albatross, WEDA, and the CTO. Its economy is highly diversified and the country ranks highly in human development.

History

Prehistory

Antiquity

Middle Ages

During the 5th century, the area came under the rule of the Sontrean Aingian kings, who initially established a kingdom ruling over the population in what is now eastern Allieu, and then conquered the other nearby kingdoms. During the 8th century, the empire of the Aingians came to be ruled by the Gladysynthian-descended Riniuans, whose centre of power included the area which is now southeastern Allieu. Over the centuries, it was divided up in many ways, but the Treaty of Provinne in 943 divided the Aingian Empire into three kingdoms whose borders had a lasting impact on medieval political boundaries. Most of modern Allieu was in the Middle Kingdom, later known as Sens, but the coastal county of Saone, became the southwestern-most point of the territories. The lordships and bishoprics between the kingdoms maintained important connections between each other. For example, the county of Saone expanded over the Olonne River into the empire, and during several periods was ruled by the same lords as the county of Sens.

In the 13th and 14th centuries, the cloth industry and commerce boomed especially in the County of Saone and it became one of the richest areas in Euronia. This prosperity played a role in conflicts between Saone and the king of Noravia. Famously, Nantes militias scored a surprise victory at the Battle of the Silver Hold against a strong force of mounted knights in 1302, but Saone soon regained control of the rebellious province.

Gladysynthian empire and Elbresian claims

In the 15th century, the Gladysynthian Empire took control of Saone, and from there they proceeded to unite much of what is now Allieu. The administration of the empire gave the area economic and political stability which led to an even greater prosperity and artistic creation. Unlike other areas in the empire's control, the kings of Gladysynthia granted more legitimacy to Allieu as a stable entity, rather than just a temporary personal union. He also increased the influence of these areas over Lyine, which continued to exist as a large semi-independent enclave.

In 1608, Elbresian traders established Porte-Lyon and Etienne as trading posts which stood autonomous from the Gladysynthian territories. As the Gladysynthian empire receded due to rebellions in Noravia and Sontre, Elbresia steadly reached its influence across the region, and unified Allieu became a largely autonomous colony of Elbresia in 1898.

Modern Era

During the World War, Allieu served as an important staging area for Elbresian and other Nortuan forces who were transiting through Zamastan to reach the frontlines in East Chanchajilla, Auraine, and Avergnon. Following the World War, Elbresia began relinquishing many of its overseas territories, and Allieu became a fully independent country on July 6th, 1954.

On January 17th, 1961, Allieu adopted its constitution and held democratic elections.

21st Century

In late October 2018, Allieuan forces joined a coalition consisting of Zamastanian, Sontrean, and Noravian forces following a breakout of clashes with Gladysynthia and aligned paramilitaries which culminated in the Third Danaska War. Allieuan forces comprised a bulk of advancing units along the northwestern front, as coalition forces moving southward from Sontre captured the town of Outonio, a Gladysynthian airbase, and aimed to seize the port city of Zeramon. The conflict lasted for two weeks and concluded with a ceasefire agreement. 24 Allieuan troops were killed in the fighting.

In the 2019 general election, the ADP won a majority in parliament and Kate Holborow was elected prime minister.

On September 18th, 2022, Allieu's parliament approved a motion to become a WEDA member state. 400 Allieuan soldiers later participated in the Terehan War.

In the 2024 general election, Kate Holborow won reelection.
