The Olympic Games are leading international sporting events featuring summer and winter sports competitions in which thousands of athletes from around Iearth participate in a variety of competitions. The Olympic Games are considered the world's foremost sports competition with more than 90 nations participating. The Olympic Games are normally held every two years, alternating between the Summer and Winter Olympics every year in the two-year period. Their creation was inspired by the ancient Olympic Games, held in Olympianus, Verdusa from the 8th century BC to the 4th century AD. The first modern Games in Olympianus in 1950. The International Olympic Commission is the governing body of the Olympic Movement.
There are several Olympic rituals and symbols, such as the Olympic flag and torch, as well as the opening and closing ceremonies. The first, second, and third-place finishers in each event receive medals: gold, silver, and bronze, respectively.
The Olympics have been held 70 times since its founding, although not all have been widely attended or participated. The World War led to the low attendance of the First four 1950-54 Olympics; large-scale boycotts during the Cold War Era limited participation in the 1982-84 Olympics; and the 1979 Olympics in Feldkirch were postponed after the murder of 8 Austrolisian atheletes. Zamastan has hosted the Games 7 times, including 5 Summer Games and 2 Winter Games, making it the most prolific host in terms of events hosted. Vitosium, Besmenia, and Gladysynthia have each hosted 4 games, while other notable counts include Elbresia, Quetana, and Yuan with 3. The most recent Olympic Games were the 2023 Winter Olympics in Monnas, Paraboca, and the 2022 Summer Olympics in Saint Raneau, Albarine.
Ancient Olympics
The Ancient Olympic Games were religious and athletic festivals held every four years at sanctuaries across Verdusa. Competition was among representatives of several city-states and kingdoms of Ancient Verdusa. These Games featured mainly athletic but also combat sports such as wrestling and the pankration, horse and chariot racing events. It has been widely written that during the Games, all conflicts among the participating city-states were postponed until the Games were finished. This cessation of hostilities was known as the Olympic peace or truce.
