Glimmera, officially the The Empire of Glimmera, is an island nation located in the Adisi Ocean bordering Zaxar. It comprises a larger northern island and a smaller southern isle. The moderate population of 24 million is essentially urbanized, with approximately 95% of it concentrated within the Hochdörfer-Altenhaven corridor. Glimmera's capital is Hochdörfer also being its largest city.

Etymology

The name of Glimmera comes from the nickname of famed revolutionary leader Katja Lucker replacing the previous name for the nation, Gotzfels.

Geography

(WIP. Climate and geography. Fauna and flora. Highest and lowest points.)

Glimmera is an island with three distinct and recognized polar climates.

History

The County of Hirschfels (1793-1869)

Early Establishment (1793-1826)

In February of 1793, Gustav Wagner and partner Lars Hatz had been determined to find the perfect business opportunity and had found that with the discovery of lands afar that they could best profit. It was upon hearing whispers of a completely undiscovered island in the southern hemisphere that was claimed to have vast mineral wealth that they sold all that was to their name in order to build a settlement to extract whatever riches they could make of this newfound land once they claimed it as their own. As friends of the Elector of Blutflusstal, they would gain from the Dolch Empire the exclusive rights to establish a colony in that location in the name of the empire as a vassal to Blutflusstal.

Upon arrival on November 9th, 1793, it became apparent there was nothing of value they could find and all that they had was claim to this great large isle and nothing more. Hatz was prepared to sell the rights to the claim for a fraction of what they had invested believing it was the only way to not perish a peasant. Wagner convinced him that building it as a place to send prisoners of concern could bring them the income to fund a better opportunity. Eleven days later on the 20th, Hirschfels (stag rock) was established as a penal colony of Dolchland to send prisoners and the undesired whether it was for eternity or temporarily. Wagner would become the one to lead the project with Hatz becoming completely demoralized.

Gustav planned for there to be two distinct parts of the colony: the port where it would receive imports and prison camps lining the corridor to an inland village that would oversee them. Thus came to be Altenhaven and Grafenstein, respectively. Grafenstein was established in what seemed to be a more centralized portion of the isle so that it would be more difficult for prisoners to find the shore if there were to be an attempt to escape. Altenhaven, then Larsroth, was built upon the soil they landed on and of course named for a Hatz who only dreamed of leaving the isle.

The Rise and Growth of Hirschfels (1826-1858)

Once more formally established, mineral wealth would be found after all and exploited to a great extent which began to attract colonists. Wagner and Hatz both wouldn’t be able to realize this for very long, perishing on the island sometime in 1831. The smaller colonial labor force and penal colony population was considered too small to properly develop Hirschfels more to exploit resources further. Gustav II would formally request more prison transfers, promising in turn more enrichment to the empire. The increased transports brought what once was a couple thousand to hundreds of thousands prisoners-possibly some 307,000 to date by the end of the transports-to Hirschfels primarily from Dolchland.
