Spatharokandidatoi

The Spatharokandidatoi (singular: Spatharokandidatos) are a corps of bodyguards in Tagmatium. They fulfil the role of personal bodyguard of the Holy Emperor. The head of the Spatharokandidatoi is called the Protospatharokandidatos (Laimiaic for "First Spatharokandidatos"). Their role is to protect the life of the sovereign of Tagmatium and they accompany their charge almost everywhere, along with the Maghlabitai. The name of the bodyguards comes from the fact that they wear white-coloured robes that they wear and the fact that they are some of the few who are allowed to enter and remain in the presence of the Holy Emperor when armed. The Spatharokandidatoi also protect the high officials of Tagmatium. In modern times, they also fulfil something of an internal intelligence role, as they are responsible for the safety the Tagmatine monarch at all times. This means that they will often liaise with the Tagmatine Intelligence Network, Internal Intelligence Inspectorate, as well as both the Provincial and National Police, gathering intelligence and identifying any potential threat.
