The Baltican Land Forces (BLF) are the primary land-based forces within the Federation of Baltica. They make up a big part of the Baltican Armed Forces and consist of four brigades, an Engineer Battalion and a National Volunteer battalion. It is an integral part of the New Central Government, which is currently undergoing full restructuring in the wake of Balticas Reconstruction.
History
Kingdom Era (1730-1930)
Republic Era (1930-2022)
Modern Era (2022-Present)
The Baltican Armed Forces (BAF) were created shortly after the signing of the Goja Constitution, during which the Republics that makeup Baltica agreed to the creation of a new united Central Armed Forces under the full control of the Central Government. The Baltican Land Forces were created shortly after, becoming an official branch of the BAF for the purpose of managing and commanding the large land-based forces of the many Individual Republics that make up Baltica. Shortly after, Ramuti was chosen as the HQ of the new Land Forces, seeing as the city remained unclaimed by either the Republic of Liplan-Kretin or the Republic of Kauni, leaving it to be integrated as a Territory of the Central Government, and its central location made it a perfect place for the new Land Forces. As of now, construction has begun to create new military facilities in Ramuti, and transform it into a proper HQ for the army.
Former Kauni General Juozas Vejas was granted the role of Head Commander of the Baltican Armed Forces on August 19th, and ever since he's been leading most of the current restructuring and Integration of the army. On August 23, another former Kauni General, Simas Jancious was made Chief of Staff of the Land Forces, and the Land Forces were able to create another base in Proza, located within the Republic of Belgorta.
Doctrine
When it comes to the Land Forces, in particular, the doctrine by which the Central Command adheres to has changed considerably. From 1940-2000, Baltica mainly relied on mass assault-like tactics, utilizing large numbers of both infantry and artillery to achieve its desired objectives. However, with the new Central Command under the management Juozas Vejas, there has been a dramatic shift in Balticas land doctrine.
Now, the main doctrine of Baltica is quick warfare, which would utilize more mechanized equipment to quickly get to the front lines and exploit gaps within enemy lines to deliver short but effective attacks to slow and scatter the enemy. Additionally, Baltica has changed to a much more defensive doctrine, wishing to instead ensure the safety and defence of all Baltican territory. Due to this change, the Baltican military is expected to see increased training, especially in the use of combat and recon vehicles. Additionally, more vehicles are planned to be ordered from 2023-2025 in order to increase the current stockpile which remains lacking. Lastly, the Second Baltican Civil War exposed a fundamental flaw in Baltican military complex and faults in its existing stockpiles, as both availability of oil, ammunition and most importantly medical equipment proved to be detrimental during the war. It is hoped as the military completes its reforms, it will be able to secure more long-term solutions to these existing problems, by developing the arms manufacturing sector and investing in the construction of military-owned medical manufacturing facilities.
Structure
All Brigades and Battalions answer to the Land Force Central Command in Ramuti, whilst the central command only has to adhere to orders from either the Central Armed Forces or directly from the Central Government itself. Baltica currently has one mechanized Battalion "Schwuzen Mechanized Infantry Brigade", two Infantry brigades "Kretina and Larunas Infantry Brigades" and one artillery Brigade "Ugvijas Artillery Brigade". It also has two Engineer battalions and two Training centres in Proza and Ramuti.
The Schwuzen Mechanized Infantry Brigade is formed around two mechanized Infantry battalions and one artillery battalion. Both the Kretina and Larunas Infantry Brigades are comprised of two Infantry Battalions and an artillery battalion but unlike the Schwuzen Mechanized Infantry Brigade only has one logistic company and not two. Lastly the Ugvijas Artillery Brigade Is made up of two artillery battalions. All four brigades are tasked with the territorial defence of Baltica, although the Larunas Infantry Brigade also serves as a training unit during peacetime.
