Belgorta (Belgortan Sister Republic) is one of three Sister Republics that make up the Baltican Federation. Bordering the Baltican Republic of Liplan-Kretin, it is the biggest SREP in population but the second largest in size boasting a population of 339,332 people and a land territory of 30,213 kms. Historically, Belgorta did not exist as an Independent state, and was instead a territory a part of the greater Vikija. However, during the Industrial boom in Baltica during the late 60s and mid-70s, Belgorta became one of the most Industrious states within the Baltican Republic, home to a rapidly growing steel and electronics Industry. As such it saw one of the largest population booms in Baltica, as people from all over, but primarily nearby Kretia and Wensal moved to the area for work. This also led to the construction of new cities throughout the territory of the Belgortan SREP, Including Svoyev and Cidra. At the time, the SREP’s population was largely mixed between Dolch and Ras.

Belgortas National revival largely re-emerged from the chaos of the Baltican Civil War, where the Dolch was often used as a scapegoat for the region's decline and the conflict as a whole. This led to widespread ethnic violence and a large expulsion of Dolch from the region, especially as the Baltijan Coalition came to occupy the area, forming the first Belgortan Republic State. The former would eventually be incorporated into the Baltican Federation after the surrender and subsequent collapse of the Baltijan regime. The capital of the Belgortan SREP is the city of Belgorta, although its largest city remains the port town of Svoyev.

Etymology and Flag

The Name of Belgorta comes from the Order of Belgora, who would go on to settle the lands of the Belgorta SREP as well as build Belgorta City, the capital of the SREP. Its flag is fairly modern, having been created in the 21st century. It consists of a white cross, with a Green top and a Yellow bottom. The cross is symbolic of the Historic Holy Knights of Belgorta, whilst the Green and Yellow represent the national colours of both the Ras and Gintarian Dolch communities of the SREP.

History

Initial Founding

Unlike most of Baltica, the area of Belgorta was not settled by the Order of Baltishtin or Native people, but instead was established by a different holy order known as the Holy Knights of Belgorta; after whom the territory would be named after. For a short time, it would be largely independent and go on to conquer and settle some local Native Ras and Kretina land, establishing the settlement of Belgorta city in 1406. Its main trading goods would be sapphires which were quite common along the Order's eastern coast. However, upon Lord Arnolds Northern conquests, the Holy order of Belgorta would be incorporated into the greater Order of Baltishtin. Most of its economic trade hubs would be seized by Arnold and redistributed to other more loyal lords, whilst religious figures would go on to confiscate yet more territory in order to establish the Archbishopric of Breiin and the Archbishopric of Flissenfeld (Both of whom would eventually become Principalities upon the creation of the Kingdom of Baltica). This left the remaining order small and Insignificant, and upon the Order's centralisation and transition into the Kingdom of Baltica, what was left of Belgorta would be reformed into the Principality of Belgorta.

Industrial Boom

Belgorta remained largely insignificant for the better half of the Baltican Kingdom Era, but would re-emerge during the first Baltican Civil War, where Belgorta acted as one of few permanent Republican strongholds during the conflict. After the war, Baltica began its rapid Industrialization, and Belgorta was selected as one of the chosen areas for rapid Industrial development. Its strategic location along the Eastern coast and proximity to the population hubs of Janakis, Kretia and Visagris would mean it would see steady and eventually rapid growth. Belgorta city grew by over 100% from 1963-1967, from 23,123 to 45,123 people in just the span of five years. The city's rapid growth would see the counties of Belgorta, Breiin and Flissenfeld merged into the new Belgorta Province. Subsequently, the Industrial development would then expand further across this new “Belgorta Province”, leading to the area reaching 100,000 residents in 1971. As such new cities were constructed, Including Svoyev and Cidra. Much of the province's new population was largely Ras, who were steadily migrating from the ravaged Northern countryside. This would see the old Dolch population of the region steadily pushed out, many of whom either migrated South into Dokestva or East into the Eastern Isles.
