The Republic of Perkunia is a Republic primarily situated within the Perkunia Valley. The country borders Baltica, Hugostan, Vokescha, and Ulgistan. Throughout its history, Perkunia has always acted like a no man's land between Baltica and the Ahranian Empire. The two would fight heavily over the control of the region. Being located in a valley, Perkunia is naturally surrounded by hills and mountains, which made holding it a pretty advantageous. For about a hundred years, it was under the full control of the Ahranian Empire, but would be able to achieve independence during the great independence wars of Central Argis. This saw the young nation transform into a republic, which at the time was quite rare. Due to its advantageous position, it avoided invasion from Baltica and its other neighbours. The nation's capital, Maznas, rests on the Balandeli river, which flows through the central Perkunian lowlands and eventually Baltica, where it drains into the Amber Lake. This river has fuelled Perkunias recent economic boom, which has seen the nation expand its manufacturing sector exponentially. Currently, its largest industries remain its ever-growing steel refining Industry and its still developing automobile industry.

Etymology

The nation's name "Perkunia" originates from the Perkunia valley, where most of the nation resides. The actual name "Perkunia" is somewhat mysterious, and has many supposed origins. One theory is that it originates from the Baltian war god, Perkanis, and that the region was named Perkunia (Land of Perkanis) because it was constantly at war. Another theory is that the name comes from the Ahranans who came to occupy the region and that they named the area "Perkunia" because the local inhabitants referred to themselves as "Perkanis" or "Children of War". Both theories remain popular, but historians can't agree on which may be true.
