Johamara, Princess Eirmar in Durland (Johamara Magliana Kelhite; born 4 September 1977) is a member of the Durlish princely family. A writer by profession, she is married to Prince Eirmar, nephew of Princess Carilla. Alongside her duties as a member of the princely family, she has continued to work as a writer and has published several books of poetry.

Johamara attended St Nichdil's Girls School and Gerenas Community College in Herran before studying at the University of Herran, graduating with a bachelor's degree in literature. She worked for a succession of publishing companies, starting with Herses and Gernra, before eventually founding her own publishing house in 2003. Since 2007, she has published several collections of poetry. She first met Prince Eirmar in 2008 at an eduation conference, with the two beginning a relationship shortly after. They married in 2010; she gave birth to a son, Count Rune in 2012, and twin daughters, Countess' Emica and Maldella, in 2015.

Early life, education, and career

Johamara Kelhite was born on 4 September 1977 in Meelet, Hornas County, the only daughter of Freedal Kelhite and Arlena (née Miraara). Her father was a senior commander of the Home Guard (eventually reaching the position of Vice-Chairman of the Home Staff), and briefly an aide to Prince Garmaanas II. Arlena worked as a teacher until her marriage, at which point she left work and became a full-time housewife.

Johamara claims descent from Prince Jora through his illegitimate daughter Galsira, and is thus distantly related to the princely family. Her great-grandfather, General Haular Farmal also claimed descent from Ismedha, the mother-in-law of Prince Jora. This claim, however, has not been verified by genealogists.

Kelhite was educated at St Nichdil's Girls School and Gerenas Community College. She enrolled at the University of Herran in 1989; initially she studied history, but switched courses to study literature in her second term. During her time at university, she developed an interest in writing poetry after a module on early modern Durlish poetry. Among her contemporaries were current prime minister Gurver Deena and former foreign minister Adelfas Yeenra. She completed her studies in 1991, graduating with a first class degree. She initially planned on completing a masters degree but was forced to suspend her studies due to her mother's illness.

On graduation, she entered the publishing firm Heres and Gernra as an assistant. She left the firm in 1993 and followed with various possessions at a variety of publishing firms. In 2003, she founded her own publishing outlet, Kelhite Publishers, with a focus on unknown writers. She ran this company with her business partner Arnnar Lerma for ten years, eventually selling her half of the company to Lerma to take up her royal duties full-time.

In 2007, she published her first collection of poetry, Aeven ("Home"). This was followed by a number of subsequent publications. Her most recent, Samis ("The Same") was published in 2023. In 2015, she was awarded the Laarun Faane Medal by the National Poetry Society for Urelar ("Friend").

Activities

In addition to her professional work, Princess Eirmar has undertaken several duties as a member of the princely family. Shortly after her marriage, she assumed a number of patronages previously held by her aunt-in-law, including Patron of the Durlish Arts Council and Honourary President of the National Council for the Empowerment of Women in Education. Her first royal event was the opening of the National Children's Centre, which she attended with her cousin-in-law Hereditary Princess Ingdil. Not long after, she attended her first solo engagement when she visited the University College of Jertar's new Creative Writing Centre.

In 2015, Johamara was elected Chancellor of the University of the North of Durland, accepting similar roles as President of the Herran College of Arts in 2017 and Master of the Simlen Kreenas School of Design and Technology in 2021.

Johamara has attended a number of private family events, including the 40th birthday celebration of Hereditary Princess Ingdil (2016) and the 75th birthday celebration of Princess Carilla (2022).

In 2024, it was announced that Princess Eirmar would be appointed a member of the Council of Regency, becoming one of only a select few members of the Princely Family able to carry out the monarch's formal duties in her absence.

Marriage and personal life

On 17 April 2010, she married Prince Eirmar, son of Prince Sarnar, Marquis of Mardan and Maithlen, Marquise of Mardan, at the Cathedral Church of Herran. The wedding ceremony was attended by the princely family. The bride wore a lace wedding gown with matching veil and train, with the bridesmaid including her sister Magrien and Hereditary Princess Ingdil. On her marriage, she assumed the courtesy title "Princess Eirmar of Mardan" and the style "Serene Highness".

Johamara and Prince Eirmar have two children:

  • Count Rune (born 17 June 2012 in Eetumal House, Herran).
  • Countess Emica (born 2 December 2015 in the Prince Garmaanas Hospital, Herran).
  • Countess Maldella (born 2 December 2015 in the Prince Garmaanas Hospital, Herran).

Johamara is known for her close friendship with Princess Carilla, whom affectionately calls her her "sister", as well as Hereditary Princess Ingdil. Within the princely family, she is known as "Maggi".

Several news outlets have suggested that Prince Eirmar has been unfaithful or has mistreated his wife. Whilst the princely family has not made any formal comment, the prince and princess have not been seen in public together since 2020, aside from with their children.
