Law Enforcement in Tagmatium
Law enforcement in Tagmatium is overseen by the Ministry for Police, the Ministry for Internal Affairs and the Ministry for Justice in differing capacities. Most law enforcement duties are carried out by those who hold office in one of the police forces of Tagmatium.
The primary two law enforcment agencies within the Greater Holy Empire are the Provincial Police and the National Police. The Provincial Police (Laimiaic: "Taxiotai") are divided into one force in each of the provinces of Tagmatium and they are responsible for tackling crime within its borders. The National Police, known as the "Praitorioi" in Laimiaic, undertake law enforcement within the Imperial Cities and pursue crime of a more serious nature across the nation as whole, such as nation-wide organised crime, large scale financial crime and instances where the Provincial Police might need more specialist services.
The other two main law enforcement services are the Internal Intelligence Inspectorate (Laimiaic: "Esoteriki Epitheorisi Pliroforion") and the Expilatores. The Internal Intelligence Inspectorate acts as a internal intelligence service and monitors those that might be a threat to the stability of Tagmatium. They have been accused by observers as being little more than a secret police service and not something that a supposedly democratic nation ought to possess. The Expilatores are the highway patrol, traffic law and traffic safety enforcement agency, as well as fulfilling mounted police duties when called for by the other law enforcement agencies or civil authorities.
Other organisations that hold law enforcement powers include the following:
- Foussatores, border guard of Tagmatium.
- Maghlabitai, one of the personal bodyguard units of the Holy Emperor.
- Spatharokoubikoularioi, guards of the Senates of Arome.
- Vestiaritai, coast and financial guard.
