The Sublime Principate of Akiiyru is a large princedom located on the shores of the Raga Sea across from the Tagmatine Empire. The land is home to 75.38 million Akiiyans. The capital of the Principate is Nimarci. Akiiryu is rich in an array of ores, minerals, oil, and natural gas which has enabled the country to become an economic powerhouse. It has used its resource wealth to invest substantially into its military; it is the strength of arms that is an important mentality of the Akiiyan people.

Geography

The land of Akiiryu is a land of dramatic geographic contrasts, from wide-open plains to high mountains, to the calm shores of the Raga Sea. Lake Thanlith is the largest body of water inland, which is fed by many rivers from the interior. The lake is connected to the Sea via the Akii Canal (connecting the Ruawai and Nuiwai Rivers) constructed during the reign of P'Theodanaric. The climate in Akiiryu is continental. In summer the temperatures average more than 30 °C (86 °F) and in winter average −20 °C (−4 °F).

Akiiyans were once a nomadic people but during their conquest of the land from the Tagmatines, they gained an appreciation for permanent settlement. In the subsequent generations, dozens of cities have been established. The following are the most important:

  • Nimarci, the capital city
  • Jauthric, the royal city high above Lake Thanlith
  • Rothrican, a major industrial center
  • Nithonac, the major port city at the mouth of the Nuiwai at the Raga Sea
  • Tannoc, a whaling and fishing center
  • Okiikumath, home to Akiiryu's biggest natural gas fields
  • Santhu, a port city in the south
  • Yunannoc, home to Akiiryu's military production
  • Kiamona, a mining city in the far east of the country
  • Garthrona, on the border with the tribal lands of the Mongol-Swedes
  • Farronarg, a community on the road to the southern territory of the Mongol-Swedes
  • Ha'Aman, a southern interior city
  • Ya'tha - home to the country's largest oil field, the Barthii
  • Ga'thula
  • Jakrii
  • Daracarath

History

The various Akiiyan tribes originated on the desolate North Central Steppe of Europa known as Than-A-Kai in the Akiiyan language. It was here that the myriad tribes fought one another for sparse pasture land for their horses, limited hunting grounds, and scarce water. Many of the tribes during this period of disunity would stage raids upon one another, against the tribes of the central plain, or for the more daring, strike into the lands of Vetok. One clan leader, Thayaric, recognized that in order to end the vicious cycle and to bring all tribes under one banner they needed to find a better home for all Akiiyans, and they needed a common enemy. Only one tribe, that under T'Baka, did not initially join. It was at the now famous gathering at Yari that Thayaric's horde charged south into lands then controlled by the Tagmatine Empire. The horde devastated the land and forced out the Tagmatines. With the collapse of the final stronghold two years after their arrival, the Akiiyans claimed the land as their own. For generations, the Akiiyan people had no central leader, and for his role in uniting the people and establishing the state, P'Thayaric was crowned the first Prince.

Politics

Government

Reigning Prince P'Neonaric (Head of State).
1st Minister of the Council T'Nit (Head of Government).

The Prince who sits upon the Antlered Throne is the absolute head of state and government. He largely leaves the day-to-day affairs to his advisors who make up the Baronic Council, led by T'Nith, but his decision is final in all matters. Beneath the nobles who sit on the council, the realm is divided into sixteen provinces, who are led by nobility appointed by the Prince. Each province is further subdivided into hides (fiefdoms). The concept of democracy as known across the Eurth is foreign in Akiiryu and even if regular citizens were asked if they wanted it, ten out of ten would respond that they support the ordered system.

Military

The Akiiyan military is made up of the Army, Navy, Air Corps, the Border Security Force, and the Special Forces known as the Healfhundingas. The Mounted Police are responsible for law enforcement. There are 753,843 active personnel across the branches, over half of whom serve in the army. Hazax'th Armories, a native Akiiyan company, is the sole supplier to the Royal force. The Akiiyan Navy has seen the most resources in recent years.

There are several notable military installations, including:

  • Ba'taroc Army Base
  • T'Jronric Airbase and Cosmos Research Center
  • Kugira Naval Station and Airbase
  • Harathsonara Naval Station and Airbase

T'Ka, the Grand War Master, is responsible for executing all offensive and defensive activities of the military on the orders of the Prince. He focuses primarily on everything except naval affairs, which is left to N'Thanitha, 1st Sea Marshal and Knight of the Stag. He consults with Admiral N'Caliasth (commander of the Northern Fleet out of Kugira) and Admiral N'Utharic (commander of the Southern Fleet out of Harathsonara).

Knights of the Stag

They are a monastic military order, established during Akiiryu's medieval period. They are led by Grand Marshal of the Stag, N'Juoneanric; their base of operations is Timja Cathedral in Nimarci.

Economy

Akiiryu is blessed with extensive ore, mineral, oil, and natural gas resources which it has used to great advantage. Mining, petroleum, and natural gas extraction and refinement make up 52% of the nation's economy. There are dozens of mining companies, including Kiamona, but all oil and natural gas fields (Barthii, Ojika, and Gar) are, by order of the Prince, completely controlled by the state-owned company, PetroKata, with the proceeds from the company going into the Prince's Sovereign Fund which is then invested in across the Principate.

Due to the culture and social mores of Akiiryu, the strength of arms is important. Arms production consists of 20%, led by native Hazax'th Armories. In recent decades, the Princes have encouraged diversification away from fossil fuel extraction and in response with some foreign investment has seen a burgeoning life sciences sector with Thanakii BioCorp at the top -- many of their innovations and treatments have made it into the global marketplace.

Although Akiiryu is far more conducive to agriculture than the steppe they originally hailed from, much of the land is unsuitable for food production, but hops and grains used in alcohol thrive. Sannoc Breweries is an Europan favorite and considers the Rihannsu Fareldi as a major threat to their market share on the continent. Akiiyans who reside along the coastline of the Raga Sea engage in extensive fishing, which has led to many disputes with other coastal states over sea rights. The wide-open plains of the east are home to vast herds of cattle and other animals.

Demographics

Education

The two most important educational institution in Akiiryu are the University of Nimarci and the University of Nitonae.

  • Professor Chadoric Gaffieaus of the University of Nimarci. Professor Gaffieaus, an archaeologist who specializes in Classical Tagmatine, continued "Ottawaticus has been virtually untouched by humanity since the last Orthodox Monks left over 700 years ago, I am sure we are going to find a multitude of hidden treasures that will further our knowledge of the Classical Tagmatine Church."
  • Professor Sergaric Durthanric, the Head of Nitonae University's Department of Palaeontology, was equally enthusiastic. "Ottawaticus is one of the oldest geological formations in north-western Europa, and we know from reading the accounts of the Orthodox Monks that lived there that the rocks are full of fossilized material. I am excited even just thinking about what awaits our team!"

Religion

The Akiiyan religion is polytheistic with multiple gods. Of this mysterious pantheon, there is one chief god, the Stag. There is also the Beast, who is similar to the devil in many monotheistic religions, but it is considered a god despite being the symbol of evil. The main spiritual aim of religion is that ethical and moral standards are their own reward, regardless of the possibility of heavenly reward or punishment. Clergy undertakes daily rituals in their god's honor, while most laypeople participate on a monthly or less basis. This is because Akiiyans believe in respect in the gods, but that relationship between them and the worshiping whole does not need constant acknowledgement. Beyond the gods, people regularly give praise to their deceased ancestors at shrines and altars placed in their private residences. Organizationally, the 'church' has a rigid hierarchy -- each god in the pantheon has an arch-priest, with the highest authority being the arch-priest of the Stag (presently J'Kaona). Beneath the arch-priest, there is minimal decision-making. Each god in the pantheon has a different array of rituals, which only the priesthood generally know of. Drums and harps play a role in rituals, as do the presence of bow and arrows. However, priests do have an open teaching policy for those who want to know more for themselves. Though Akiiyan priests are willing to convert anyone to the teachings and ways of the pantheon gods, most non-Akiiyans would not qualify due to the characteristics that the gods expect in their worshipers. The most important religious sites are Timja Cathedral and the Robjuth Monastery, both of which are in Nimarci.

Culture

Sports

Akiiyan nobles love hunting, and it is not unusual to see a large column of Akiiyan horseman chasing deer in the vast forests of the country on a weekend from their wildness estates. Due to their martial traditions, there is always a love of blood sport and activities that keep their minds sharp, like chess. These recreational pursuits are very similar to the aristocracy of Rihan. Akiiyans of common birth generally loves a game of football or rugby, sports in which the Principate has national teams, nicknamed the Greens in the honor of the Akiiyan royal color for whom they play in their Prince's honor.
